if you are going to upgrade the intercooler pipes just get the lower intercooler pipe, no need for a upper intercooler pipe. youll probably also want to get a walbro 255 fuel pump before the tune

The stock upper pipe still has those hose sections which expand under boost, you will probibly notice a little difference in boost response with a hard upper pipe.

The hose sections get visibally bigger. If you still have them on your car, have a friend hit your two step with the hood open while you watch, my two step gets to about 12 psi, and they do swell up a little bit, the only reason im in the market for a new up pipe is that my nitrous is really far back because of that hose section, its actually in the aluminum pipe, which I dont like because its really far from the T body, when in fact its supposed to be 6-8 inches away.

I would just do upper also because the stock counterpart is just such a piece or ****, it's hideous too...

Injen is cheap, works, and fits with the stock battery; looks WAY better too...

Well, I know that this is another arguable point but I would put my .2c on what I really believe.

1) A good well designed UICP will reduce even more lag by having the shortest possible path from the intercooler to the TB and intake manifold.
2) The lesser volume of air the turbo must fill perhaps the better response
3) cleaningless, a straight through UICP will live you plenty of room on the engine bay
4) Keep it simple! the lesser the clamps, connecting tubes and hoses involved, the more chance your engine will be more reliable, less places to leak
5) Design sometimes equal velocity, not just the shortness of the UICP pipe helps, but also a good flowing design with lesser abrupt turns will always enhance the air flow.

I do have UICP because I think they helped. Private testing at the track proved me to increase 1.5-2mph consistently trap speed in the 1/4 mile when I added the LICP and UICP.

Ask any Subaru WRX or STI owner how does it feel when they replaced the stock TMIC with the Greddy FMIC. Everyone will tell you that those 8 feet of piping from the end of the FMIC outlet to the inlet of the TB really hurts, spool up is drastically compromised... I know we are talking about the Evo, but the same principle applies.

My .2c

Carlos

Import tuner did a power page on the evo with XS engineering doing all of the work. I think it was a 7-10 whp gain with 15-20 lb/ft torque by upgrading the intercooler piping with XS IC piping kit. I'm not so sure about the gain exactly but it around those figure. You should check it out.
