Unhappy High pitch brake noise

I rarely post but I need help. I own a pure stock '06 Evo MR with 6,xxx miles. Since day one of ownership, I have had a high pitched squeal coming from the passenger rear rotor. This noise occurs anytime the brakes are applied. It does not matter if the brakes are hot or cold. The noise is only occurring from the passenger rear rotor which is odd.

I have taken my Evo into the dealership to identify the brake noise. The dealerships solution to this problem was to resurface the rotor (both rear rotors) and replace the pads. Unfortunately, the high pitch noise was still present after the repair. The dealership told me the next step in resolving the issue is to call Mitsubishi support to troubleshoot the issue would require the Evo for a day.

Now you have the back ground history, please help get this problem fixed

Thanks!

PS - I have used the search function and read all post related to brake noise. None of the posts seem to ID my problem.

I had the same problem. After i bedded in the brakes it went away. I drove 100+mph then applied generous pressure to slow the car down. Took my foot off and waited a few seconds the applied the same pressure until the car came to a stop. Im pretty sure theres a thread on here about it.

let me guess, it only squeeks when the brakes are lightly applied... if you step on them hard... nothing.

this condition is very common and seems to be a function of the aggressive pads. I've found that using plenty of lubricant when re-installing the pad/shims per the factory service manual greatly reduced the problem.

Improper bed-in/break in time(miles)?

Did you bed the brakes using a set method? I do for any brake pad job.

Bed-in (what I use for my Satisfied pads):
10: 30mph to 10mph moderate braking then let cool for 15 mins
5: 50mph to 10mph hard braking then let cool for 30 mins
Full bed-in first ~1000 miles

You are correct in stating the noise goes away when applying on the brakes hard. Can you explain why this noise is occurring from one brake pad / rotor? I have been told the brake pads are not a fault but a problem is with the rotor (high spot). Thank you for your quick reply

Yes. The brake pads were properly broken in and the mile is over 1K from brake surfacing. Thank you for your reply

Any other ideas?

Why would lubricate reduce the brake noise? As I understand, brake pad lubricate is applied on the backside of the brake pad when reassembled occurs to reduce vibration against the caliper. When the Mitsubishi tech performed the resurfacing, he applied a health dose of lubricate.

I hope this thread doesn't turn into a **** thread

a very common occurence with the evo brakes squeaking ( stock brakes). i've learned to live with it...actually kinda makes me feel like i have race pads on! although, the squeak can get annoying at times but its something i tend to tune out.

Re-bed the pads. Even if you think they were already done so properly, do it again. If they still squeel after that, just get used to it. Or buy some extremely non-performance pads.

I think this is fairly normal, usually the noise comes and goes. But if it is happending every single time you brake, then there could be a problem. Buy some EBC green stuff brake pads, and then you will see what REAL brake noise is and I guarrantee you will slap the stockers right back on. The stock brake pads really aren't that bad. The EVO has noisy brakes, it's something you have to learn to deal with. But like I said if it is REALLY happending every single time you brake (and be honsest with your self) then there could be a problem.
