does a ses light cause the ECU to go to the second map?
does a ses light cause the ECU to go to the second map?
When i was at AMS performance i was told that they correctly tuned my car and made sure that my second map in the ECU ( the fail safe map) was corretly tuned at a lower setting, so that it wouldnt hurt my engine if it goes to the fail safe map.
My question is this:
My SES light stays on all the time. I reset it and it just comes back on with a misfire code P0300. So with the SES light on does it run the 2nd map (fail safe map)?
The reason i am wondering this is because after my tune i drove from chicago to sioux city, IA and the SES light was off the whole way. I got 24 mph on the interstate and 22 in town after my tune. Well when i got back home 2 days later it came back on and now once again it wont stay off. When i checked my gas milage it was 19mpg in town. It is winter here, no snow on the roads but freezing so i havent been getting on the throttle at all.
I am going to put on a OEM Evo 9 BOV (i got the forge rs now, and flutters terrible)
If that doesnt work...
I am going to go back to my iridium spark plugs that i had before the whole ses light issue.
If that doesnt work...
then i am going to get a new set of OEM plug wires
if that doesnt work...
then i dont know

Trust AMS
Hmmm... have you tried calling AMS and asking them if this is a common problem and if so what the remedy is?
(Off-Topic) As a side question how did AMS take care of you? I've dealt with Buschur but not AMS. They look like they are doing some wild stuff with the Evo. Just asking cause I'm thinking of having them work my Evo to: anywhere north of 500whp

CEL on.
Shortly after the work on my Evo was performed my indicator lights fired on. Diagnoses they gave me was my a/f map was outside paramaters in conjuction with the O2 sensor. I told 'em, "Ok, just fix it and make the light go away." They promptly switched out the O2 sensor and reflashed. Warning lights went buhbye.
in my opinion Buschur Racing and AMS are the best companies out there for Evos. I dont think that either one of them is worse than the other. The only reason i didnt go to Buschur Racing is because it would have been an extra 4 hours of driving. Ams was very straight forward with me, they explained what they were going to do, and after they were done they explained what they all they did and why. When i went to AMS my concern was not my SES light, it was lack of WHP. I just happened to notice on the way home from AMS that my SES light was off and it stiayed off for 5 days, then once i got back home it came back on. I will cal them tomorrow (monday) and see what they say
I called AMS performance and they informed me that that second map in the ECU (the fail safe map) is NOT activated with a SES light on. The second map is only used by the ECU if it senses knock.
I just wanted to let everyone know just incase someone else has this problem
