Thumbs down 1100 miles and guess what??? steering wheel peeling

Yah.....I had garaged this car every night until last night and I guess the cold undid whatever cheap *** glue that momo used on this steering wheel......i know tons of people having this problem....is it even worth trying to warranty it??? Won't all of them do it anyway???

It really sucks how the only thing built well on this car is the drivetrain.

Why the hell they thought glue was going to hold I will never know....it seems like a lot of these recurring problems with these cars have been around for a long time and Mitsu had more than enough time to correct the issues....i guess they just don't give two $hits.

I dont want them to have my car for two days for this kind of BS....i know they will ding it or scratch it or whatever else.....oh well.....i guess I'm just complaining because the little **** like this prevents you from enjoying the car the way it should be enjoyed.

Mine did the same thing when I bought it during the late summer. The dealership replaced the steering wheel ($1200) no problems.

+1 for me... My EVO has about 2,100 miles and the steering wheel is peeling on the left spoke where your thumb is positioned... Glad to hear the dealership is replacing them.... I hope its not a case-by case basis...

Why would you think the cold did it? And just so you know, 50^F is NOT cold. It's been below zero here and the glue is fine on mine.

Hmmm....give me a minute to warm-up the crystal ball. FWIW, the replacement wheel on my SE hasn't shown any problems. It's a balmy 8 degrees here ATM.

It really sucks how the only thing built well on this car is the drivetrain.
All this due to a single defective part?

Why the hell they thought glue was going to hold I will never know....it seems like a lot of these recurring problems with these cars have been around for a long time and Mitsu had more than enough time to correct the issues....i guess they just don't give two $hits.
1. Does Mitsu build the wheel or is it Momo?
2. The dealer was very responsive when I had the same problem and it was taken care of without incident.

Here's how it went for me. I came in for an oil change and showed the service writer the peel. A new wheel was ordered and I got a call ~10 days later saying it arrived. I stopped back and had the new wheel installed; it took no more than 45 minutes from the time I drove onto the lot. Truly, I can't see any reason why you'd have to leave your car for two days.

I had mine replaced last week (the problem appeared after just 250 miles on the clock!). Took a couple of weeks for them to get the wheel, and they said it would take about 1hr30mins to replace, although I suspect it would be a lot quicker (it would take me under 45mins to replace it!).

The warranty caused no problems though - it was approved immediately. Just hope it doesn't do it again - although I can't see why it wouldn't. The leather is still bonded the same way.

Thanks!

S.

The problem may be limited to a given lot of wheels that were manufactured using a specific glue. At least that's what I'm hoping. This is costing Mitsubishi and they have every incentive to modify whatever went wrong.

I have seen so many threads of people having thesame problem at the same spot I just figured all of them would do it. But if you guys say the replacements are good, then hell I'll do it. Do they let you keep the old one??? =D would make a nice goodie in my display case
