Hey all, I was looking for a little help...as I searched and couldn't find anything or any pictures similar to this.

If you look at the attached images, you can see what I found when I pulled out my K & N filter tonight for an inspection. It looks like the lower portion of the filter was melted by the metal area that I circled in red in the car. I am not sure if you guys have any recommendations for preventing this or if this is something that has occured to anyone else. Also, I am unsure of what an oiled up MAF sensor looks like so I took a picture of mine to see if you guys think it is. I have had the car boost leak checked twice and am surprised that no one bothered to mention that the filter was messed up like this although I should be blaming myself for not checking on something so simple.

I am getting the car dyno'd in 2 weeks and don't want any type of complication such as this to occur. I am thinking about going with the Buschur filter as the replacement to this one. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Doesn't look burnt to me. Looks like it is rubbing on something.

Edit: It is rubbing on your frame. Put some door edge guard on the edge of the frame. That will solve your problem with the filter rubbing.

Mine also looks the same. As long as there isn't a hole through it, you are fine. IMO

Some filters come with a L bracket that will lift the filter off the frame rail. I would try to get something like that to help this.

Just fab up a aluminum bracket to keep your filter from hitting anything...problem solved. I was kinda dissapointed when I got the filter that one didn't come with one. But we just took a piece of metal, drilled some holes, bent it a little to get the filter up and away from everything...and voila.

Though there shouldn't be any harm done with the filter being banged up a bit--make sure there aren't any large perforations or tears.
