HID help please!

OK guys, just came back from the dealer and holy hell!

Here's what's going on. When I turn my lights on, the drivers side HID, turns on, but flickers, and after a bit it goes off. I tried giving it a little Fonzy action, (I/E smacking it), and it dosen't do anything. If I turn the lights off, and then back on again, sometimes the same thing happens, other times I get nothing for awhile.

So, I go to the dealer today to let them give it a look over. (I hate electronics and crap). Anyway, the rep comes back out and says the HID is burnt out and needs to be replaced. Get this, $1800 to replace and install!?!?!?! I tell them screw it I'll figure something out, and take off.

Now, wouldn't the bulb stay off all the time if it's shot? If I need to replace what do I need to replace? Should I just go after market, non HID. stock HID? Any and ALL help is most welcome. Anybody in the eastern PA area that would be willing to help for beer and cash if this is complex?

samething happen to me on aftermarket hids. The guy that put them on changed da ballast for me under warranty. This was like 6 mnths ago and i kinda notice that the same one turns on a bit later than the other one. Maybe it's a prob with car. A guy told me to run a voltage stabilizer to see if it fixes the prob. I don't know though.
