Good/paint safe bike rack for an evo??
Good/paint safe bike rack for an evo??
Recently I picked up a new mountain bike and was wondering if any one has had any experience with a bike rack on an evo. Basically I just need a bike rack for a single bike that wont cause damage to my paint or put a dent in my roof. Searching yielded no results so I'm just trying to get a better idea.
ps: Don't say take the truck cause well 20+ mpg is alot better than 10 mpg when traveling a few hours to the nearest path.

I used a cheap 2-bike trunk rack last year. As long as you're careful mounting the rack and keeping the bikes from rubbing the bumper, it'll work fine. Search for "bike rack" and you'll find a bunch of threads. Some people have used a Yakima roof rack and others have installed a trailer hitch and a hitch bike rack.
i wouldnt do it on mines...but why not? ive seen a few evos with bike rack on the roof as well as STi. id get a used truck if you can afford it but if you dont use the evo for racing then it can serve you with the bike rack mounted on the roof.
Thanks for the ones that didn't reply with something like "a bike rack on an evo???"
It's a car guys yes it is ment for performance but hello having a safe bike rack to use every once in a while on my evo is by no means a horrible or wrong thing. I thought about maybe putting it in my back seat but muddy trails and all that i'd rather beable to hang it somewhere outside the car. It's not like I want a bike rack on my car at all times I want something that when I want to go I can just toss the bike rack on knowing it will be safe and not destroy my paint.
May not be your flavor but why not combine both my hobbies?? Enjoy the drive to the trail in the Evo, have fun out on the paths then have a nice ride home.
Hell at least I didn't ask about neons

I mtn. bike too, i feel your pain. As someone else mentioned, you can get a trailer hitch and rack.
By the way, there's a C6 Z06 around here with a roof rack
And up in Malibu, I saw an IS350 with the surf boards sticking out the sunroof!

ive got the thule system for my car. it has rubber pads where it touches the roof. only place it scratches is the actual attachment point which is a small lip under the rain gutter thing. i would post a pic but my car is in the shop and its not mounted right now. i think theres a thread somewhere talking about snowboard racks too. (same stuff just a different attachment)
I got the 2 bike trunk from sports authority. I've used it a few times, driving 65mph. No problems, no scratches. (Besides the paint on the evo is crap anyways
) Easy on/off in 2 minutes. I did get a melted tire once from the exhaust, so be carefull with orientation, just put the side that hangs low on the drivers side.
I love and have always been enthusiatic towards all my cars, however anything that promotes the health of my body will always come first, and biking is a phenominal conditioning sport
