You can take them off just fine. There is a little plastic peice on the front of the black peice the needle is mounted in. You pop that off, and just firmly pull the needle off. It will go right back to 0 when you reinstall it.

I think the needles have a certain way they fit on. Just like when you remove your Climate controls, notice how the rear has a wedge/pattern to the way it goes back so it remembers the last setting.

If not, just take a picture of it that way you have a reference

I have taken all the needles off and they dont just go on any way. It took me a while to get them perfect again. DONT TAKE THEM OFF! The gauge faces come off without taking the needles off.

Sorry I was thinking of my aftermaket gauge faces. You do have to take the needles off to remove the stock faces. If you do decide to take them off just make sure you are prying evenly and carfull not to bend the needle shaft it sits on. When you push them back on it is trial and error. The hard part is you push them on and you think you got it but the shaft it sits on turns while pushing it on. If I had to do it again I wouldnt. The faces do bend so maybe you can look behind them and do what you need to do.
