no, that's overall. the results are only published in the magazine. an issue worth buying, at that. i imagine it must be very hard to impress people that get to flog nearly every car ever made. so it's nice to see that people that are paid to do give their educated car opinion think so highly of the car subjectively despite its middle-of-the-pack performance on their instrumented tests.

"No car can truly be deemed idiot-proof (there'll always be a better idiot), but the Mitsubishi Evo comes mighty close. This nearly neutral, vice-free, high-limit chassis breaks away gently, sliding all four wheels on asphalt just as it does on gravel in rally duty. Add strong power and stronger brakes and a snug-fitting seat and cockpit, and the driver's confidence level increases accordingly. Even the steering manages to transmit more road-surface info than those in the front-drivers. It's a strong fourth-place finisher."

You know with about the average 290whp bolt on Evo with slight tune and stock turbo I wonder how much this would change the results. Also the GT3 has pole position tires with a wear rating of 80. Put these on the Evo. These every day mods would definitly put the Evo in the top 3.
Interesting article! As a GT3 owner and Evo owner I can tell you that there is NOTHING you could do to the Evo to make it handle like the GT3. That being said, I am no fan of the Cayman and would gladly rate it below the Evo but the Lotus handles very well, too bad it is so slow by comparison. If the Elise had the power of the GT3 or the Evo, it would be tough to beat.

nice to see that the evo made it in the competition. 4th place to the lotus, cayman, and gt3.

Great article. I got the mag and I really like how they tried to quantify every test. Much better than some of the stuff cranked out by competing mags. Keep your eyes on the AMS TA Evo as far as handling versus race prepped GT3 cup cars.

They are both great cars. Its a cliche to say it, as seems everyone has said it before, but the Evo flatters you by making you feel like a hero from the get go (and you DO go very quick indeed). The GT3 demands respect, and rewards in ways that the Evo never would.
An average driver would be quicker in the Evo around most circuits, simply because the Evo's performance is just SO ACCESSIBLE. the GT3 is ultimately the faster car, in the right hands... but it doesn't suffer fools lightly, and will spit you out if you're clumsy.
i'll leave out any discussion of mods, since once you go there, all bets are off. but that also misses the point. by the time you're well down the road of upgrading your turbo, brakes, suspension, and whatnot on the Evo (thereby making it a lot faster than it was out of the box,) the average driver-- such as myself-- will probably just be getting more comfortable with the GT3, so that you're able to push at say, 85% instead of 70% of the car's abilities.
don't get me wrong... i love BOTH cars to bits... but to compare them purely on the basis of laptimes fails to recognize something essential about both cars, and what stunning achievements they each are.
cheers!
