Rats in the car???

The other day my roommate says tells me he saw a mouse/rat in the garage, and he's planning on getting traps to get rid of it. Couple days go by, and no results....
I'm driving to work this morning, turn on my fan and shredded newspaper/paper towel/napkin shoots out of the vent from below the dash.
"Oh $hit!!!" I arrive at work and look underneath the the glove compartment, try to look up the little vent guides, pop the hood, didn't notice any thing weird along the firewall.
Any suggestions? I don't want to have to go home tonight and just take the dash apart...
This sucks!

i don't know, just know you need to take care of it somehow. my buddy had a groundhog keep getting into his engine compartment, and it started chewing through his MSD wires and his car wouldn't start oneday. that would suck if it chewed thropugh wires under the dash!

it doesnt hurt to check out your vents just to make sure a nest hasnt been laid there. plus it would suck to have the scent of death coming from the vents themselves. Lastly try using outdoor moth *****. its typicaly good for keeping deers and other animals away from plants, but it works for rodents too. just lay a couple inside the engine bay, and one or two on both ends of the cockpit.

I had a cat that used to sleep under the hood of an old camaro I had. Started the car one morning and the cat shot out from under it like a rocket. Seems the radiator fan lopped its freakin tail off. Never did find it's tail though.

The shredded stuff is an indication of a nest and the fact that they came out of your vents means it is either inside your heater box, or it has somehow gained entry to the cowl area where the fresh air intake is located. I would either spray a little carb cleaner down in there and see if you hear anything, or take some things apart.

The same thing happened to me with another car while I was stationed overseas and left my car with my mother back home. I guess in Ohio in the cold a$$ winter time a car that's parked outside makes the perfect house for mice. I had a rude awakening when I took the car out for the first time when I was home on leave and noticed a smell (just thought it was from sitting so long) but then out of the corner of my eye I see 2 mice running around on the passenger side floorboard. I drove the car straight to the dealership and traded it in on something else(I know, hasty bad decision). It seriously pi$$ed me off though and it would be waaaay worse if it had been my Evo. The traps are probably your best bet but that won't stop them from going in there in the future. Pakring inside a garage would help but even then if they really want to get in there they will. Good luck with getting rid of them and cleaning it all out.

Yeah.... Then whatever it is , its going to die in the car. Horrible smell will follow. Me I dont care if the rat drives the car! As long as its bought back in one piece with a full tank of gas.
