Here is another idea. About abuse of the car and having them say a part broke because of it. Well they market this car as a rally car for the streets. In all of the car magazines they have an ad about signing off knowing this car can do 0-60 in 5.1 seconds, several times they state this. Well You want to see abuse try getting a 5.1 0-60 time. Dosnt this require the car to be launched at high rpm's? Isnt this the most drastic thing you can have going on between your engine and tranny , gears, axels, drive shafts, ect, ect. Many test show this car from a 5mph to 60 takes what, 6.8 seconds. Which is a far cry from 5.1. So if they ever say your warrenty is not covered because your abusing your car. This type of marketing and advertising clearly shows , this is what this car is capible of, so why not drive it that way? Not that I do this, but I cant see them trying to say to anyone with warrenty issues that their car wont be covered because they were abusing thier cars. Just my idea.
I personally havnt ran into any troubles with my evo, but just from them saying that any mod to the car will void your entire warrenty, I can tell that the abuse card will come into play at sometime.
Let the tap dancing begin.

Okay...I have first hand experience with this. I pointed out that exact ad for the 0-60 in 5.1 time to Jim Ridecki, Midwest Regional Service rep for Mitsubishi when he was informing me that my warranty claims were being denied on my Evo. I pointed out how the car is marketed as a rally car and capable of all these great things and he said that just because the car is marketed that way does NOT mean you can drive it that way. Jim Ridecki of Mitsubishi also said that their marketing of the car is totally separate from how you can use the car, and that if you drive the car in the way it is marketed you WILL be denied warranty claims, and you WILL break the car, as it is NOT intended for the car to be used as advertised. Jim Ridecki of Mitsubishi also said that the capabilities of the car as advertised are totally separate from how you can actually use the car as a consumer. This is from regional service rep for Mitsubishi, Jim Ridecki. Soon after that conversation he voided my warranty for participation in a road rally. My car is totally stock. Thanks Mitsubishi. :

i have no mods yet but have printed the magnuson-moss warranty act and keep it in my visor with my insurance card just incase the dealership wants to deny warranty on anything. and whos to say that the you weren't on a bad bumpy road and bottomed out and it destroyed your exhaust, cat and hangers you have to replace right with parts will cost loads but with say buschur or rmr it would be much cheaper they can't stop this from happening.

Boy meeyatch1 that is the biggest bunch of bull **** I have ever heard. What do you plan to do. Does anyone think any salesperson/manager would tell you this before you bought the car. **** no, they say its a monster super car. Anyways I hope you get things worked out with them. I think I would laugh in the guys face if he was trying to tell me that ****. Then pick him up off the ground. This can get pretty interesting.... We shall see.
One guy said he got caught at the drag strip and they yanked his warrenty.
I seen a guy last week at the local 1/8th mile strip in a 2004 wrx, WITH INTANSITS on the windows!!!! He made like 10 + passes.

You can get around this , but for what $1,000 plus Lawyer fees, Somone should contact another Mits. rep. higher up than that regional sales rep. and see what they have to say. Or maybe everyone should boycott the evo8 and stop buying them, maybe chip in and place an ad in the usa today. With the 0-60 time in 5.1 with a big cross through it and a disclaimer saying "any such driving like this will void your warrenty before you can say, you have to be joking, and we have your money" thank you very much Mits. Nothing like false advertising to sell your Ralli-car for the streets.

Regional sales reps are full of crap and know about as much as the aforementioned is worth, be it with or another manufacturer.
The guy is in 'SALES', i.e. sell it then deny EVERTHING, pretty standard operating procedure. A sales rep may be responsible for losses in his area, and may affect his payout (I think this applys to ). Of course he'll deny claims when he can.
Minor legal pressure and bad press, which can be pretty easily had (remember that AutoWeek picked up on the Boycott...) should bring some results. Especially if you can get it to the attention of the higher ups. This holds true with all manufacturers.
I still LOVE , but I will not stand for BS and BS policies.

EDIT

I must clarify, that the claim has to be authentic, i.e. if it's driver fault (yeah, you know who you are ) then has NO responsibility. Claims like those by silvrevo and meeyatch1 seem legit, and when it's legit has to fix it.
The corporate fear of: "if you let one do it, then the precedent is set, and you have to let all of them do it" has some gound in truth, but to deny every claim is BS.

Heres the rule...

Go ahead, modify your car out to its full extent, it does not Void your warranty, BUTTTTTTTTT..... if something goes wrong because of that aftermarket part, your bet your *** your warranty for that "system" in the car will be void.

For instance, your install aftermarket intercooler hoses your car, then 3 hours later a fin on your compressor wheel decides to crack, because of manufacturing defects, welp, they have grounds to void your warranty because of the manner that the way the hoses were installed (how do they know you didnt get something trapped in those hoses while your were installing them). A word of advice, if you have a dealership service department install a high quality aftermarket piece on your car, that isnt a huge modification, they will usually let it go under warranty, since 60% of the time the reason why the car fails because of the way the part was installed.
