Is the Evo ever coming to Canada?
1) Which EVO...if you're talking about the previous EVO's like the EVO 6 and 7 you can find dealers in the US that have imported them from Japan and the UK. Yes they're used but 30,000 miles isn't bad for a car. Most of them have been street cars but there is the occassional Rally Car. Generally speaking if you bought one already legalized for the US it'd be much easier than getting one from Japan without the modifications already done. Look to spend anywhere between 30-60k Canadian for a Used EVO 6 or 7.
2) If you are talking about the EVO 8, my answer is Yes, probably....but do to the fact that the FMIC is located directly behind the bumper it won't pass safety. Thank the Canadian Govt for that one. It's not even that it isn't safe, its just an insurance company scam because they know it'll be expensive to replace front ends of EVO's if a bumper, reinforcing bumper, headlights AND FMIC were all wrecked.
The way Mitsu can get around this is to make a Canadian version with the FMIC mounted above the engine like the STI, OR make a stronger bumper.
That's how it'll be when it comes to Canada. My guess late-2004 early 2005. Possibly the redesign...ie Evolution 9
