Car broken into... have question about repair
Hey guys,
Add me to the list of EVO's broken into. Window got busted into and had a HU I just purchased stolen from the car. Issue is that when they broke into the car, the shards of glass went through my leather Recaro's and sliced up some of the leather.
The insurance company is trying to have it repaired instead of replacing the seat. The leather guy they sent me to said it could be done by resurfacing the leather and recoloring (or something like that). Has anyone heard of this or had this done? I specified I will not be satisfied with anything but a perfect OEM seat, but the insurance is insisting on doing a repair first.
I need advice guys... love my car too much to have it anything but perfect. Do I have a leg to stand on? Anyone know about fixing leather as i described?
thanks!

Honestly... let them try and repair it. As long as you have established the fact that you will not be happy unless the seat is completely perfect... you are covered. Do not make your insurance company spend more than they may need to because it will only come back and hurt you in the long run. Good luck though and sorry about the break in..

Your insurance policy most likely has a clause that gives the insurer the right to choose whether to repair or replace damaged items, like a seat.
Good luck - hope you can get it new.

Replacement seat covers can be purchased through the dealer, so this is always an option. It'll more than likely need to be ordered from Japan and will take a few weeks. I bought my car used, and had the dealership replace these when the purchase was being made because there were lots of wear marks in the suede.

Yes It Can Be Repaied But The Perfection You Are Seeking May Not Happen. I Have Seen The Same Thing Happen To A Car Here At The Dealership And We Ended Up Putting A New One In It. But That Is All Determined Upon The Quality Of The Repair. Good Luck In You Quest For A New Seat. Just Be Stern And Hope For The Best.
i honestly would not settle for anything less than replacing your seats! it might be more cost effective for the insurance company in the long run to replace your seats. they can send you off to get your seat repaired, and it sounds like you wont like it, then it goes back to another repair shop, in the end it'll cost them more hassle and money. talk to the adjuster (or your agent) and work it out so that you can get replacement seats. make them work for you, afterall you are a customer who pays all those premiums!

have it replaced. I have a leather seat repaired because the service tech forgot to remove his screwdriver from his back pocket and it never looked the same. just get a new set of seats, you will be much happier. insurance will go up anyway you cut it.
