HKS Type 1 Turbo Timer

My first mod will probably be a turbo timer. I'm not fully aware of how they work, but is it something that you can just take the key out of your car, lock the door and walk away, while it still idles to automatically shut down for you?

I'm looking at the HKS Type 1 turbo timer, since there's a nice write up of how to install it yourself. Seems to have a lot of features. What do you guys think about that particular one? Any cons? Are there any others that you can recommend that's similar or better?

I have the HKS TT Type-1. I had it installed in my glovebox to keep things clean, but it is so low profile some people mount it on top of the steering column or on the dash. That is really the only way to take advantage of the timing features (1/4 mile, 0-60, etc.). I don't care too much - just trying to protect my turbo. It's very easy to use. If I go to the car wash, I just turn it off. When I leave, I turn it back on. If I run into 7-11 for example, most of the time it's still running, so I just put the key in and go. Very handy...

I have the Type-0 because it matches the factory gauge cluster, and I don't really care about added features. My Friend has the Type-1 and it lights up bright blue.

I have a type 1 and highly recommend it. With an HKS MT-6 harness, it's a plug and play install into the Evo. One of the simplest installs I've done in a while.

Does it come with the harness?

But my most important question is "is it something that you can just take the key out of your car, lock the door and walk away, while it still idles to automatically shut down for you?"

harness is seperate.

yes, as long as the handbrake is up (so the BRAKE light is on) - can just turn the key to the off position and take it out. you can even lock the doors.

it shuts down once the timer has run down.

the only "con" i can think of, you have to tap the factory ECU wires. but, if you're not looking to do a lot of other mods. no worries. if you are, you can always get the extention (so that you dont end up chopping it up!)

good luck (pm coolguy949, he's got TT and harness hookups)

I'm thinking about getting a turbo timer too, but have a question. Can you just set it once for say 2 minutes and then never mess with it again (so that every time you remove the key it automatically runs for 2 minutes before shutting off)? I'd like one of these, but I don't want to have to mess with it every time I exit the vehicle. Anyone know?

Yes, the particular one I'm looking at has those functions. You can set it manually to how long you want, or you can set it to do it automatically, based on how you were driving/how long you were driving.

Which one are you getting? Or rather, which ones have the "set and forget" feature I'm looking for?

How does the extension work, and where can I get one? How would 'tapping into the ECU' limit other mods, because I'm looking to mod it further in the future. Would it affect having an alarm, since I will get an alarm after the turbo timer?

as far as i know, the ecu harness extension is for 1. convenience and 2. keeping the factory wires from getting cut to hell from tapping etc.

with a harness u can hookup a lot of **** plus remove the mods quickly if needed.

theres a pretty big thread on this https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...threadid=25335

good luck.

Is this the expensive harness everyone's talking about? It's only $12.50, what's the difference?
