gas mileage suddenly got really bad...
have u been driving it hard???
dont listen to any of these ppl that say they are geting 300miles to the tank.
the evo is a sub 20mpg car.
my average is 17mpg with 19mpg with no boosting and 14mpg with lots of boosting and lots of city. 5mpg on the track
but with normal driving you still should at least get a min 180 miles before the lite comes on

Not true, many times I have gotten 27 mpg. But I do have 1 modification and thats the cat-back exhaust.
Only problem is my mpg does get affected by traffic. It takes low or non congested traffic while driving in the city to reach that mpg. If I am driving in a lot of stop and go traffic then it can go down to as low as 20-22 mpg. But also take in consideration that I shift at 2k-2.3k rpms and not like most Evo drivers who shift as high as 4k normal driving. Also when I drive I stay off boost during acceleration and rarely do I go WOT.
Another thing to add, slowing down with gears does help your mpg's and would probably increase the life of your brakes as well.
320 miles / 11.5 gal = 27.8 mpg
Best guess as mentioned earlier is your o2 sensor might be going bad and at the same time its not throwing a code.
If it is his 02 sensor aren't there cleaners you can use first to see if that will fix it before buying a new one?
Somebody mentioned the cloud of black smoke coming out the exhaust as a possible symptom to a boost leak. I have never heard of this. If this is true I need to check mine for a boost leak because that is something I get when I hit WOT.

i used to have this problem so i changed the o2 senor because it threw the code. Then the gas mileage was still bad but with some help i found I had a huge hole in my intercooler in the back of it.I was getting 10 mpg before but after the fix i am getting 25mpg if i dont boost but normally 21mpg because who can resist

Start with the easy fixes, like oil level and air filter. The dealer will only tell you to check your gas mileage and then from their they will check your car if it falls below what the window sticker says(the one that came with the car when brand new).
