ACT street clutch break in
ACT street clutch break in
I just had an ACT street clutch installed. I found posts about breaking in clutches, but I still have a question. The standard milage for breaking in a clutch is 500 miles of city driving. But what it really depends on is how many times you engage the clutch right? I am going to be in NYC this weekend, therefor the clutch is going to be engaged and disengaged ALOT while driving in traffic. Sould I still use the 500 miles as a bench mark? I don't want to have a clutch installed again any time soon. Thanks guys
I have the act clutch. I broke it in for 800 miles, stop and go and highway. I've had it for about four thousand miles now and it is noisy as hell. It holds fine but the noise drives me nuts. It sounds like rocks rolling around inside the housing.

The pedal will be a little stiffer than stock. You made a good choice that's a good clutch. Break in should be complete in 500 miles. It probably doesn't even take that long but there's no way to know for sure so best to play it safe. Just don't launch the car off the bat.

i broke mine in about 400 miles, then did some "spirited driving"...no hard launches till a lil later
...very jolty when you first pull off, take gettin used to like any new clutch

I bought my car used and believe I have this same clutch. It is noisy, & I hate the noise... but it grabs real fast & hard. I had the AWD launch down on this car in 2 launches. Didnt take long to get used to & I do recommend.
I feel your pain corps
When i had my ACT clutch put in, after the break in period i would get on it and anytime after 6,500 rpm the shifter would stay in gear. and wouldnt let go until after the rpms drop. but after a 1000 or so more miles of just normal driving it went away and shifts with no problem.
HUHH, What does living in NY have to do with anything.. LOL..
Yeah just drive it normal and don't go crazy on the boost for the first 500 miles.
You want to make sure the clutch surface mates with the flywheel without hotspots.
