evo...feel my pain
evo...feel my pain
a short recap of my quest for an evo. i am 31 yrs old and have wanted an evo long before there were even rumors of wrx/evo's being brought to the states. now its fall 2002 and everyones talking about evos in january, so i put my first downpayment down. i go to the LA autoshow and see the official unveiling of the evo and return home to Detroit to see the evo and the new STI the following week. Still no word on my car. gettin a little anxious and worried due to my constant evolutionm thread reading, i decide to go to another dealership and put down another dp, this time in writing at MSRP(my 1st dp was MSRP verbally, yeah right) 2nd week of 2/03, still no car. i decide to drop by a mitsu dealer that is only about .5 miles from my house and find out that they are also selling evos at MSRP. so one more dp makes three. im feeling pretty good about getting one of the second allocation of evos at this point since i was #2 in line at all three of the above dealers. i forgot to mention that a friend of mine(who i talked into waiting for an evo instead of a wrx) also had downpayments down with me at two af the above dealers.
here's how its turned out so far:
Dealer A calls and tells me they are getting a black evo available on 4/3, this is the color my friend wanted, so he takes delivery on 4/3 and currently has over 5000miles on it. i also get to order a car from this dealer and the ship date is set at 5/20.
Dealer B tells me they now want a $2000 dollar downpayment just to order the car, so i tell them no thanks.
Only two chances left.
Dealer C takes delivery of "my" car on 5/15. Too bad i didnt get to pick the color or options. It was Apex silver w/sunroof. A sunroof just doesnt make sense to me on an evo. The deal was at MSRP, but, to make up for this the dealer insisted on putting a bunch of dealer installed crap on the car so...
Only one chance left.
For the last three weeks Dealer A has not been able to find out where my car is. My dealer called the regional destribution manager and i was given a revised ship date of 6/21. This was around 6/15. On 6/26 my salesman gave me a 2002 Mitsu Diamante to use as a loaner car. The dealer has been great, Fox Mitsu in Grand Rapids, MI.
I am thankful that i have been able to get some seat time in my friends evo...too bad its been done in the wrong seat.
Please Evo gods, deliver my Evo.

I got jerked around for quite a while in a similar situation. My dealer would not tell me where my car was. Either Mitsubishi dealers can't accurately track cars, or my dealer was full of BS. Yeah, it was worth the wait and the hastle, but it sorta spoiled the car buying experience for me.
