Depends what he is looking for. Does he want to show off and let the world know he decided to drive his car today loud or does he want near stock level quiet with a nice deep tone?

There is a nice low mileage used Tanabe Madalion Touring cat-back in the for-sale section. Very slightly louder than stock, with nice deep tone.

Just in case he didnt figure it out yet, everything costs an arm and a leg for the evo. Example:
(not including fuel mods)
.50 trim Turbo kit for the srt-4 = ~2,000
.50 trim Turbo kit for the evo = ~4,300

Srt kit is just as reliable as the evo's.

The best exhaust for the money is the QTP electric cut downpipe. It installs with the stock cat. It can be as quiet as your stock exhaust or it can be loud as H3LL. It's priced right around $475 and it comes with the electronic switch for inside the car. Heres the link: http://www.quicktimeperformance.com/Downpipes/evodp.php
You can get the same thing on EBAY for $475 plus 10 shipping.

Do you have experience with this?

The more I look at different exhausts the more I like this option.

Do you need to reflash for this? My understanding is you don't "need" a reflash for a turboback, but I guess this is a little more extreme.

What downsides might there be? Build quality? Might it corrode and become inoperable in Northern states that use road salt?

I can't help but think this is a cool option. Quiet and stock for daily and just flip a switch and let it roar when the need is there. I think I'd have to add a nice turndown though.

It lists for both the EVO 8 and 9, I wonder if there is any fitment issues for ACD equipped cars?

If you go to there website they have a sound clip and show you the underneath of the car to see how it looks. Just click on the link in my post. And yes I would prefer you to reflash the ecu because you can tune your engine for the best performance. I would even reflash a stock Evo with no mods because that has been proven to add more power. The EVO from the factory is well under tuned. So far it has been proven to add a lot of power by reflashing a stock EVO.

If you dont want ebay parts on your evo (I dont) CVR has a great deal on Magnaflow catbacks. I bought one from them and it fits great and sounds terrific. Its rated for 95db so its as quiet as stock.
