TOB or ???

Ok here's the deal. As of last night my car has been making this clanking noise from about 2700rpm and upward. I dont know if its the TOB or what. At idle you cant hear the noise but if I rev it in neutral you can hear it. Even when Im driving, when I get to the rpm range it will start to make the noise. It really sounds like my TOB, but at the same time it sounds like my old DSM when it spun a rod bearing. Has anyone had an issue like this before?

I know 03 makes a sound when the ac is on. does it sound like a clicking noise. Could be the lifter sticking. What mods do you have on the car?

I rarely use the ac. 272i/264e motorwise and an act xtss for the clutch.

I listened to the car this morning and the sound is coming from the motor. Is there an easier way of checking in side without completely tearing it down? Dropping the oil pan or something

you can drop the oil pan without pulling the motor. that will allow you to inspect the bearings down there.
