Question What is the most Ricey exhaust, which one should I NOT get.

This is a twist on a question that I see asked a lot. I have been searching through the evolutionm archives for the last couple weeks trying to pick an exhaust based on both sound and performance. As you can imagine there are quite a few, “What is the best sounding exhaust” threads, and no real consensus on which ones sound really good. So far all I can tell is that the Blitz Nur spec and Greddy Ti are likely the loudest, with the HKS and Fujitsubo the quietest. With the Tanabe, Megan, Epsiler, APS, AMS, Buschur, Helix, TurboXS, Vishnu, Jun, et al landing somewhere in between in both loudness and how good they sound.

I realize that asking which exhaust is best is a tough question because most people answering have only had one or two exhausts and are likely to defend the exhaust they purchased as sounding really good – which makes sense. Also, sound quality can be subjective. So maybe it would be easier to find out which exhausts you hated the sound of? I mean, something that you really did not like would probably make an impression on you, and you would not feel like you had to defend a particular exhaust they way you would if you had purchased it and it was the only one you have really ever had.

Luckily performance is not as subjective, and I would like to pick my exhaust narrowing down which ones sound great and then pick the one out of that group that offers the best performance.

Anyway, So back to my question. Which exhausts do you NOT like, or even hate, just be clear on whether you don’t like the particular sound or the overall loudness or both. Unfortunately, I have not had the opportunity to meet many other evo owners in SD that I could get a couple rides with to see which exhaust I liked… but I have heard a couple evo’s on the street with exhausts that sounded down right ricey, as well as others that sounded amazing. What are your thoughts?

Thanks guys

IMO, almost all exhausts for the Evo sound nice. I think its more of wanting loud or quiet.

I think that any 3" with no resonators and a canister muffler is going to be too loud, for me atleast.

+1.

But, to help you out... Base it off of prices (partially). My buddy with an evo bought an exhaust for 700.00... I bought the full AMS one with a testpipe. His car sounds like a civic... mine sounds much, much better. You cant even compare them.

I think the ricey part in an exhaust is shown pretty much at the muffler a 39 inch tip or a dual angled tip or some crap like that.

I think that some of the exhausts do sound different most others, such as the AMS system, some of the knock off e-Bay stuff, and Buscher systems. If you like the deeper, throatier, louder sound, go with the more common ones such as Greddy Ti, JI-C Ti, HKS Hiper, Carbon/Ti, and several others I can not remember. If you want something more on the quieter side, I'd go with the Greddy SPII, it's a full 80mm exhaust with a very well baffled muffler (still 80mm inside) and you can run it with a test pipe and still be quieter then most systems.

I think most of the N1-style exhausts made with SS sound almost the same or very close.. I run a RSR straight through pipe with a Megan CB and it's pretty loud. No resonators.. very deep while cruising, at slow speeds sounds like musclecar, sounds like an F1 car at WOT. Altogether I would say it's really not rice... but I think that's just because of the configuration of our turbos and the increased exhaust output, and 3" through piping. A N/A civic with the same exhaust probably sounds like ****.
