Educated Diagnoses Help Please...

Hey guys, i need some help or ideas. I'd like them to be from people who have a good mechanical knowledge. An uneducated guess really doesnt do me any good as i am already covering that base

2 weeks ago i was on an on ramp to the express way, it was one of those circular on ramps going to the right. All of a sudden my car died. I pulled my code and it was the p0335 code. (Crank Position Sensor). I did some troubleshooting and determined that the sensor was bad. I replaced it, the car cranked right up, no issues.

About an hour ago, same exact thing. I was going around a right hand turn with a little bit of speed. I hear a loud pop and the car died. I instantly thought LICP, although i have the NESEI now and its got the brace so i doubted it. I also had no codes. I tried to crank the car after doing some checks, no start and i throw the p0335 code again. Id put money on my crank sensor being broken again.

What do you guys think would be a good diagnoses as to why i broke another one ? Do you think the crank could be walking or something ? If so, is the only fix rebuilding the bottom end ? If not, what is the cheapest route to get this repaired if the general consensus is crank walk or a different diagnoses you guys agree on ?

Thanks for your help and input...

Well I may be wrong but when usually when the motor walks the crank angle sensor gets physically destroyed. I remembering seeing this happen numerous times on 2nd gen dsm's. How did the last sensor look? Any physical damage?

If it is crankwalk you can also hear it. It's a very unique sound. Some people with lifter tick thought they had crank walk but the sound is much more pronounced than that. Also do you have any inconsistency in your clutch pedal?

I doubt it's crankwalk but I don't think we should rule it out. I found out my 95 tsi was walking when I popped the hood and had the car running while I had my buddy pressed the clutch pedal. If you grab a flashight and look at the crank pulley you can actually see it move from side to side once the clutch is engaged.

the last sensor looked fine... no obvious damage. I did find a washer and a piece of plastic inside the timing cover, so i think it hit the sensor and broke it. My clutch feels perfect. I adjusted it out at the track because it was engaging too quickly and since then it has been great. I will see if the crank moves with the clutch in but i have to get it running first to check that one i guess... thanks for the reply

i hear a vibration rattling type noise but it sounds like it is coming from underneath the manifold. Its not very loud either. It seems to be only noticeable by me. It came right after i installed the 20G so i think it is related to that though.
