Exedy Stage 2 Single Vs. ACT 6 Puck Sprung
i have the act hdss on mine... the street disc... not a puck... and it's great... i've launched the car plenty of times... but i dont burn my clutch when i launch... and it still handles like the 1st time i installed it...
How do u not burn clutch when u launch? If your not burning clutch then your hurting something else in ur drive train.
hey man i run da ACT street disk.. it handels the power but it s a little hard to get in to gears at high rpm s.. last friday went to da track 1st run i couldnt get in to gears at7600 rpm. so had to shift slow.. but id say stay away from da puck type get the ACT XT street disk it s good for 600 ft/lbs i think..
swapping in a 6 puck disk in the stock clutch isnt going to make it "strong". the clutch plate will be weak. so you might still have the stock pedal feel, but you are gonna have sh1tty engagement.
Ive never had a problem with ACT and continue to use one to this day and I beat the crap out of my car.

Dirk from ACT states otherwise. The stock EVO PP is actually pretty strong. Its the friction material thats weak.

Thats what a local Evo tuner shop told me and this is the cheapest solution.

If you try hard enough ANY clutch can break the Evo drivetrain and that includes the stock clutch. Longevity of the clutch depends on a good design from the start, you choosing the right clutch based on your goals and your ability to drive.
Like the guy above said, most people including ACT do not recommend using a puck clutch on a street car. That is not to say that there aren't people with them who are happy. If you launch a AWD car with a street/organic disc and you're smelling the clutch that means you're slipping it too much or your car is making too much power for it. Lauching an AWD car properly does not have to involve slipping the clutch excessively. With a puck style disc if you slip it as you described you won't smell anything but that doesn't meant you are doing damage to the drivetrain and or clutch.
I have never seen a reputable shop recommend putting a puck style disc with a stock pressure plate. The clutch is rated using the clamp load of the pressure plate along with the coefficient of friction of the disc. Putting a puck disc with a stock pressure plate does not = a race or even a performance clutch. Choose wisely based on your needs.
