Clutch is giving... Which one to replace with?

Hey guys,

I am putting out 497AWHP and I need a new clutch. My clutch is starting to slip and it is driving me crazy (obviously). I currently have the Exedy Twin Disc Clutch... Now the question is, do I need to replace the flywheel too or no? And where is the cheapest place to get the clutch? I will attempt to install it myself, probably with a friend or two. Although i would definitely be very greatful for anyone local who could help (Chicago Suburbs, close to AMS) and I would obviously reimburse...

Thanks,

Tj

I think you should get flywheel also if your getting a new clutch. This is the only site that i saw with a decent pricing on Exedy HD twin https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...hreadid=233643
Good luck!

He doesn't need the whole new clutch. He just needs the Exedy rebuild kit and either a new flywheel or resurface the current one.

Oh... Please explain? Where can you buy this from also? I have heard of these but did not even think of it.

To be quite honest, unless you can get a great deal on the rebuild kit, you might be better off getting a new one, like azntoyhere said. I have a pm on where to buy a rebuild kit. I'll find it for you and post it up. The only reason I know this is because I was going to purchase a used twin and rebuild it. Wasn't worth it to me for a used clutch.

Yeah. Well, I am pretty sure it is my clutch. It is my first car with this much performance, and I am used to a basic toyota OEM clutch... not this one... I have been experiencing slipping whenever i floor it in any gear, shift up, and then let off the clutch while still at decently high rpms (3-4k). The car will basically just let the engine run, but the car doesn't jump like it used to anymore and take off with the AMS GT35r turbo I have... Also my car is bogging wait too easily at anything below 3k in any gear... and it grabs much slower then it used to to get into first gear... So i thought at first it could have just been glazed, but this would be the clutch right?

And Thegame, please post that link for me, please. Thank you

These guys said they can get them

www.gruppe-s.com can get them, but their pricing looks funny. They said you had to have bought the original clutch from them or something? Give em a call and see what they say.

http://www.exedyusa.com/race/dealers.asp Go through this list and call some dealers and see what they say.

I'm no clutch expert myself, but it sounds just like you need some new disks. Everything else should be fine. The flywheel will need to just be resurfaced.

I cannot find the exact place that had the best deal. It was on the Exedy dealer list though.

you can buy a rebuild kit for Exedy twin disc. I have a same thing.
you don't need to replace the flywheel .
get it from Z1performance. fast ,reilable. And cost around $600.

I posted a reply in your other thread about your bucking problems.

PLEASE DO NOT try to replace a clutch yourself, particularly a twin disc, if you are not VERY familiar with the car and have more than "I can find the bolt and turn the wrench" skills. You will be setting yourself up for BIG problems, and a tow job to AMS.

Read the Evomoto.com tech article, look under your car, and decide if it's worth the savings to try it yourself.

Exedy clutches are WELL known for shedding their retainer ring if you don't reinstall the clutch just right, and you would benefit from reading the numbers of posts about Exedy twin discs that had to be reinstalled several times before they worked properly. The install is a huge component of getting an Exedy to work properly.

Have you adjusted your clutch adjustment for your existing clutch? It may have been out of adjustment now, and you've been driving and getting on it, which is causing more wear and damage.

You need to get familiar with the components you have. Buying a high HP car and then learning on the fly can be an expensive way to find out basics on how cars work...

Get a new exedy twin plate clutch and replace the flywheel.
It'll cost you a pretty penny but its all worth it..

or you can go with the act street disc or the 6 puck.
