Definitely a fair bit of revving over 5k. I guess my point was that if you run the car hard eventually there's a good chance something will break. Adding power just increases the chance of failure.

Even if the rod bolts hadn't stretched, eventually something would have given. The other rod & main bearings were also starting to show signs of increased wear. While the failure in #1 was from stretched bolts, I suspect the wear on the other bearings came from the added power I had. So of course I'm planning to put the car back together with even more power - but at least with upgraded fasteners for anything carrying a bearing on the bottom end.

As somebody else mentioned, it depends how hard/how often your at full boost. i'm guessing that you won't be flooring the car at every shift, and if that's the case i imaging that you will be fine.

Boost itself is not the problem, it's detonation from getting too much air into the engine. Fortunately, the stock knock protection on the IX is pretty solid so it's gonna be hard to mess up. The worst danger is that if you adjusted your boost AFTER your tune, that the maps at that level of load aren't right, causing your car to knock, in turn causing it to make less power than it could (or the reverse, they just aren't tuned very well, and you guessed it, you are making less power than you could).

You should probably get it tuned any time you adjust anything major, and boost is definitely that. At the very least, logging the knock sensor output with a Tactrix cable ($80) and EcuFlash (free) would show you if you are detonating.

EDIT: Ooops tripperfx already said what I just did:
If you were tuned for 23 than you should be fine, but if you were not id turn it down to where it was for the tune. You may actually be making less power or getting some knock. Some tuners like to advance timing to get power some increase the boost. Id do some logs and make sure your not getting any knock.

yes i agree, i forgot to mention that tracking the car makes alot of heat which can lead to detonation. i would turn it down a bit if u plan to track the car.

You should be fine. Don't sweat it. If he tuned it and it blows, kick his *** and make him re do it.....But really though, you should be fine. Enjoy your ride and don't get too technical with it or you may end up sorry. Evo's are the strongest AWD on the road by far. Not much need be done to feel the true potential of this car. Just enjoy your car and get to know it inside and out bro b4 u go modding it out too much. I speak from experience. If he set it as is I'd leave it and hit him up for recommendations. Play it safe bro.

I was wondering this same thing. My car was tuned to peak at 22psi then taper down. I turned it down to 19psi in the summer cause it gets hot here in Arizona, and the gas here is just horrable. Im not really concerned about loosing power, just want the motor to run safely during the summer.

I would gather to say on the 4g63 which mind u is pretty well bulletproof you should be fine with 93+ gas

If you are that worried turn down the boost to 18psi! Pretty easy to do.
