Our cars are just awesome....
Our cars are just awesome....
I originally thought to post this in the Motorsports section, but I figured it would be somewhat redundant and I'd get a lot of "ya no kidding" comments...
I just had the best instructor in all my experiences in HPDE...20 years of racing experience..has raced everything. Long story short;, I let him drive my car in the instructor group with me as the passenger (I know, Sacrilege!) but this guy knew his stuff...and I really wanted to see what the Evo was capable of in the hands of a professional.
So he lets this GT3 full Race Car pass us (apparently, this car has won PCA Club events..so the driver is very good); I'm thinking, OK, fast car, let him by; but within a second, he's right on his tail...stalking him; and the Porsche could not escape despite how much faster it is than our little grocery getter! My instructor is talking to me as he is driving, telling me exactly what he is doing....trail brake here, breathe off throttle, on throttle, etc., etc., and I'm spending half the time watching his feet and the other half in a state of panic looking at what seemed to be 2" of distance between us and the GT3.
Eventually, after a the second lap, the GT3 acquiesced and let us by and the hunt continued, picking off cars one-by-one until the session was over. He get's out of the car and gives it a big dramatic "hug"....having never driven a track set up Evo (the car is set up Robispec) he says that was one of the best times he's had in a car since he was racing professionally 10 years ago
So, I take what I've learned from observation and instruction after and I'm solo'd the last two runs of the day are combined A/B (I'm a "B" at best, and that would be stetching it..) and wouldn't you know, I'm able to make a respectable showing with the "A" group, passing many of the cars that I normally watch when "A" is on the track...
This is by no means self endorsement, as I am still a neophite when it comes to the track, but more so a testamemt to the cars we drive, as they are simply awesome...
If you have an Evo, please; please take it on a road course...it is what the car truly wants to do

I've got the KW V3 Clubsports, center roll kit, bumpsteer kit, alignment, corner weight from robi. I added a 27mm rear sway and links. The pads are Pagid Yellow's with DBA 2-piece rotors in the front and one-piece in the back..
Now if I could only drive the car as well as it's equipped
