i just bought a 2005 evo mr. When i am in 3rd 4th 5th and 6 th gear there is a loud humming. Its shifting good. I have been hearing it is the transfer case and also can be some bearing in the transmissin. Please help if u have the same problem or know wats going on. Thanks

You are gonna hear cracks, tweaks, squeaks, popping, whining, yelling, and hollering. Its the life of an Evo owner.

Evo's are know for tranny problems, however its possible it could be a wheel bearing. If its a 05 it should be still covered under the factory warranty..bring it in and see what they say.

 

 

its proabbly just the normal sound coming from the evo my brother heard this and freak till he heard it in mine. the evo is a mechanical car youll here parts working.

 

it cant be a normal sound its way too loud and this morning im guessing the transfer case gave up. I was driving and stopped at a red light and when i took off i started to feel a grating noising and vibration way to loud and hard to be normal. Right now its in the transmission shop but has anyone else had this problem

 

Sounds like your transfer case is gone. Sorry that happened to you on your new (used) Evo. Did you not test drive it? Search for "death whine" on this site and you will find a video clip of the sound. See if that's what yours sounded like, and boom.

 

Does it make this sound when you have the car in gear, but not on the gas..and just coasting? If so, its completely normal.
