Does this make sense
Does this make sense
Just out of curiousity, I checked the build date on my EVO, found on the sticker inside the door. The date says January 2003. I picked up my car last week......does that make sense. To have a car that was built in January '03, sold just last week to me, considering how hot these cars have been since they came out.....
Or am I thinking too much.....

Honestly, I don't think these car's are as hot as we all think. I've been thinking about getting an EVO now for a month, and TWO different dealerships have 4 EVO's sitting on their lots, going for MSRP, and they haven't sold in a month. One dealer has all hard-tops though, and I think most American consumers shopping for cars these days at least want a car with a sunroof, so that's probably why they aren't moving, but the others I don't understand. As long as your evo has less than 10 miles on the ODO, you should be all good
Drive safe in your EVO. Take it easy.

The build date is when it was officially put together in Japan, which was in January of 2003. Then it was put on a cargo ship for who knows how long (3-4 Weeks). Shipped and unloaded in California. From California, loaded onto trains, carrier trucks, etc.. then shipped to dealerships across the nation. It all depends on the timing. They were eventually in every lot by end of March 2003.

My car arrived from the Port in Baltimore.
Evolate, The reason the dealerships have a bunch of Evo's on their lots in your area is simple to explain. When the cars came out, those dealers wanted a few K over MSRP....when others were selling for MSRP. And now that they are willing to sell their Evo's for MSRP, there are lots of other lots that are selling a good bit below MSRP.
In short, their prices are still higher than the market will bear.

Is there any way to determine the build date from the VIN number? I noticed the 11 Evo's at the Dealership have VIN's with last numbers ranging from the 89000 to the 121000 range. Were there any improvements made on later build dates? Kind of want to know so when I deal on one, I can keep the VIN number in mind.

Mine has build date of June 2003 and I took delivery on July 11'th. The dealer had other colors on show room floor but I waited for Wheightless... I was told that it came to port in Tacoma WA, went rail to Chicago and was Trucked to Indi from there...
