Boost Leak at BOV?

ok so i decided to do a boost leak test, removed the maf and hose, and connected the coupler with the gauge and air inlet right to the turob housing......

now the first time, i noticed it leaking at the MBC, and i understand that it is suppose to , so i removed the line from the MBC to the BOV and capped it off at the BOV, now when it wont get past 23 psi and the air just shoots out the bottom of the BOV

now it is a stock 8 BOV, is this normal? should be upgraded?

i was using a big compressor i put it to about roughly 50 psi, so i know thats pushing out plenty, but the more air i push the more just gushes from the BOV, now when i had like 5 psi in there, it all just leaks out right away an di'm assuming its all from the BOV because i didn't hear air comin from anywhere else.

Is this just a bad BOV?

Well for one the BOV is pressure assisted from boost to hold the BOV closed under boost. If it's a stock EVO 8 diverter valve they can be weak some so bad that they leak idling. If you have a boost gauge that should tell you if it's leaking under load. You will see it fade off at high boost levels or surge up and bleed off. If you have a stock BOV that holds 23PSI you have a fairly good one.

If you think you have a leak I would cap off the BOV and keep checking for a leak. If you don't find a leak put it all back together. Then load test the BOV and watch the boost gauge to see whats going on with your boost. If your trying to boost more than 23psi on the stock waste gate actuator you might be misdiagnosing it for a boost leak.

well, i didn't really have anything to cap the bottom off with, but it does hold 23 psi when driving so i guess its fine, just thought it was odd to leak there durin the test, didn't know if that was normal or not.
