Had a conversation with someone today over race gas.
I hate to make a thread over something to just say, 'hey i proved you wrong!', but he doesnt seem to think he is wrong, when clearly he is. He is boostedreams.
Direct Quote:
Evo Toy: Im adding race gas not to just cruise around in, im adding it to up the boost to 27-28psi
boostedreams: Good luck on over spooling yoru turbo
Evo Toy: over-spooling?
boostedreams: it will not hold 28lbs
Evo Toy: Your right, it wont, peak 28 and will probably fall to 20-22 to redline
boostedreams: thats pointles
boostedreams: why not have it hold 21
Evo Toy: 21 spike & hold 21?
boostedreams: not spikeng
boostedreams: hitting 21, and staying on 21
boostedreams: makes more since that hitting 28 then falling to 21 doesnt it
Evo Toy: No, it doesnt
boostedreams: yeah it does
Evo Toy: you will make a ton more power in the mid-range
boostedreams: your not making anymore power
Evo Toy: You clearly dont know what your talking about
boostedreams: no it will fall right off
boostedreams: no you dont
Evo Toy: yes, you do
boostedreams: im doe arguing
boostedreams: your not to bright
Evo Toy: Let me put it this way & you can answer with your excellent knowledge since you obviously research it all the time. Why is it that say on a GT30R, you can only run 22-24psi on pump gas depending on elevation? Hm? Doesnt make since especially when the efficency level is 26-28psi, eh?
boostedreams: no
Evo Toy: you'll knock over it 22-24
Evo Toy: on pump
Evo Toy: Race gas or meth will allow you run 25-30, maybe even a little higher
boostedreams: good luck with that
Evo Toy: Make 400 or so on pump, 475-500 on race gas/meth

Overspooling. Wow. Just adding race gas isnt going to give you performance. Raising the boost up is one method of running race gas, while another method is dialing fuel/and mainly timing. Sure, running the turbo over what is considered stock is going to put more stress on the turbo.
I'd say a large percentage of this board is running at one time, race gas or meth. If this statement of his was true, why would everyone do it?
Anyhow guys, respectively, I think on race gas & raising the boost (on my 9.8) to 27/28 on my current 4 Wheel Slide tune now, ill gain 20-30whp. Is that just to much to ask? Or am I going to overspool my turbo, make less power & blow myself to smitherines!
How about someone clear this up for him, because its obvious no matter what I say, hes not going to get it.

im running 110 right now, hitting 28 peak and falling to around 24. once in a while when gettin on it ill get a sight hesitation and then goes again, i dunno what that is, i really cant feel the diff that much to spend $70 every time i fill up, but my bro who rides shotgun says he feels the difference, im just stumped on the hesitation thing, funny thing is that i dont throw a cel, try it out and lemme know how u like it. i much rather be tuned for race gas, then i bet it would be a night and day diff.

Yeah, ive read tuning for it will help make a nice difference. I just wanted to turn the boost up & hit the track and work for a nice trap speed. Just entertaining the whole ordeal.

I have 2 custom tunes on my car, one for 93 with around 22-23 psi and one for 110 with 28 peak holding 25-26. The 110 tune is HUGELY more powerful - props to Kunal (inco9nito99).
One thing I might say to the guy who says he can't feel the difference... I noticed you didn't list any sort of HFC or test pipe on your sig, did you just not put it down cause its so common or do you not have one? or am i an idiot and didn't see you did write it there... i don't see it. Get a test pipe, I'm pretty sure leaded gas and catalytic converters don't go together well.
To the OP - that guy is an idiot, yes.

Wow, that is probably the DUMBEST conversation I have ever seen....
Props to you for tolerating that and handling it with such class! I would have freaked out and go BANANAS on the guy.

you can pour in race gas and turn up the boost... but you dont need something very potent... if the mixure of higher oct and 93 is too high youll run too rich.
i would mix a 50/50 of 104 and turn the boost to 27-28 pounds... youll hold boost better with the higher peak, not 27-28 obviously. but there is definetly a power gain.
Cheers!

When people don't know there stuff, it's better just to end the conversation.
I'll usually just leave it at:
"you really think so man? I'm pretty sure that [well known fact ] is right, but I could always be wrong. I'd love to hear where you got your information from."
