My core is no good so I wondering what my best bet would be to replace my short block?

im in the same boat as you bro, i found a new OEM shortblock for 2400, all the aftermarket shortblock companies will hit you with a core charge of 2000. Just buy a core for 2k and buy Aftermarket internals have it assembled and you could have a nice shortblock for 3k easy. just my .02

I've talked to a few engine builders on this subject. They told me a used block is better sicne it has gone through it's cycling period already. The metal has heated up and cooled down and whatever. I was going to get a new block for a build but they told me not to buy a new one and find a good old one that had not thrown a bearing. Plus a new short block is $1,600 where and old one is maybe up to $1,000. Ask an engine biulding machine shop what they would do.

I have been buying engines and blocks for a while now and have a few in the garage. I keep them for some builders I know that need a block for someone that blow their's and needs another.

Regards,
Maurice
