Sure why not...I would prob. get a bra for it though. I know those things could be bad for the paint but it couldnt hurt just putting it on for the trip...keep your hood from getting abused to much.

 

Yea if you get the gumball rally videos on timzcat, you can see all the exotic car's front ends being hammers by rocks, sand, all kinds of ****. BRA is a must unless your rich

 

The only thing i'm worried about is the rock chips,and the alltitude, gong from 98feet to 6600 feet,I just want to take extra precautions,1200 miles is alot of miles to breakdown or something

 

I took a 375 mile round trip on the interstate in the EVO the other day and pretty much hated it. The car can handle it no doubt, but just remember if you start feeling tired in the least bit you should stop and stretch.

Something about the sound of the car cruising at 80 really made me tired even for the relatively short highway trip I was on.This is not a good thing, and If you nod-off for even a split second in this car there will more than likely be a price to pay.

Oh yes, I also ran through a swarm of hard-shelled beetles coming out of crop fields adjacent to the highway. Made a big mess, and I also got a new chip on my hood as well. A bra would be a good idea for legnthy road trip for sure.

Go for it. I put 5K miles on my EVO in less than 4 weeks, with the majority of it on the highway, I also did a bunch of passes through the mountains in Maine and New Hampshire. In high altitude you will do much better than most people because the turbo will serve you better than a N.A. engines when you get up in the air, so you won't have much to worry about. A bra would be good, but good luck finding one in stock, I'm still waiting on mine. Either way, with or without the bra, put a lot of wax on the front end and the mirrors and the bugs will be easy to get off. Pass the trucks that are dropping gravel/sand/etc. and you should be o.k. don't forget to bring the 1800 number to Mitshubishi that you should of recieved in the mail just in case something did break down, you'll get a tow, some gas, or they will fix the flat for you; you already paid for it in buying the EVO, might as well use it. In my first 5K of miles, I've had no problems, mind you it's only 3 1/2 weeks old, but my SVT Focus that I traded in had already been at the dealer 6 times by the same time/mileage.

I just did about 900 miles from Florida to Virginia.... Worst road trip ever. Don't get me wrong, I love the car, but it got very uncomfortable after 3 or 4 hours and I still had 10 to go. 2 hours no problem but after that..... Thats just my experience though.

We always need some more Evos here in Colorado! I have driven mine to Montana..550 miles each way..and then Wyoming..which was about 280 miles each. I thought the car was great..no problems with it at all.

Here are my personal road trip suggestions..since I've been on a few in the car.

1) wax the hell out of the hood/mirrors/front clip before you go. Bugs will be much easier to wash off that way if you dont get a bra.

2) the windshields in these cars seems really soft, I've got 3 rock chips already..but since the roads are mostly clean now..you shouldnt get any..but its a possibility.

3) take something to sit on..(between your *** and the seat itself) the recaros are nice around town..but at almost exactly 3-4 hours they started to put my legs asleep every time. Maybe a pillow..blanket, something. If not..plan on taking a lot more, longer, breaks.

4) plan your fuel stops..I was getting @ 24 mpg on the highway average..you could prolly stretch a tank to 300 miles if you HAD too..but about 275 seems a safer limit..and there isnt much between here and there.

5) when you stop for gas..just make sure you give your car some time to cool down and adjust to the altitude. It seems it takes a few cycles of the fan turning off/on to get some new readings..make sure you do it. I drove from Denver to Casper without stopping much..drove around there and my car was running like CRAP. Let it idle for a bit when I filled it up, all better!

6) radar detector! Its so easy to speed on long, open, roads without cruise control. I got a ticket in montana for 100mph in a 75 zone..I honestly thought I was going 85ish..hard to tell in these cars, and they still pick up speed quickly over 75..(yay!)

Anyway, hope you get back here man..lots of "local" stuff going on in the import scene these days..better all the time!

Well, last summer I drove from San Diego to Silverthorne, CO in one day which was about 1000 miles. And I did this in my old 95 z28 with the t-tops out in 115 degree weather in Nevada sitting in Corbeau Forzas (really cheap unpadded buckets, if you didn't know) with an unmuffled exhaust. It honestly was still a lot of fun, although I was covered in dust and dirt by the end of it I'd do it again

If my camaro with 98k miles on it can make it through that I bet the evo will be fine. Besides, the recaros would seem like plush leather couches compared to the corbeaus I had

drove in my evo from shreveport to vegas and back.. it was alot of fun and i really didn't miss the cruise control... but if you drive that far i'd get some good rest before you go.. or get someone to drive with you...

 

Guaranteed to be more comfortable than 1,246 miles on a Harley. Just do it!

 

My EVO runs great up here in The Springs.

I drove here in one day from Houston earlier in the year in my 911 with no problems. Keeping the speed up keeps you alert. Radar detector highly recommended!
