Car accident last night...need advice
i used to drive my aunts M3 before i got my evo. I was covered even on her policy. Insurance usually works for someone allowing another person to drive their car. Such as your friend needs you to drive because he is drunk or too tired, you are covered under him... So your dad giving you the permission should be the decider, and you should be fine.
His rates will go up for sure, and you will have the accident on your record, but you should be fine. DEFINITELY sit down with a lawyer... if there is one thing anyone should do, it is sit down with a lawyer before you call the insurance company, even have your lawyer call them is better than talking to them without advice.
Good luck man. im sorry to hear about the ride... glad you are okay though.

sorry to hear. for future reference, ask if your insurance company allows joint-drivers to be listed on the plan. for example, i'm with USAA (military/govt. workers) and my younger sister has both her and our dad's names as drivers. so her insurance card has both names on the card as drivers, but my dad as the owner.
always keep your head on a swivel man, especially with these monsters. good luck

Nah, never happened to me, but from my DSM days, this used to happen with some regularity due to a poorly designed, leaking yoke from the transfer case. The fluid would leak out and eventually the TC would just lock up.
I recall someone mentioning this happened to their Evo.
Now that they offer rewards for reporting insurance fraud, I'm not sure the pics w/ the visible license plate and the other identifying info in this thread are a good idea. Just my 2 cents.
Hopefully it's as others have said, not fraud and you are somehow covered, but I've got my doubts. Otherwise, why would I put my kid on my policy, paying out the nose, when I could just tell my insurance company he only drives on very rare occasions?

dont know the rules in NY, but here is my story from CA, i was driving my moms car during the holidays, i got into a car accident, her car was fully insured but i wasn't a listed driver on the insurance policy since i have my own cars, they fully covered it but then my name was listed on the insurance policy that i cannot drive the car, after 2 or 3 years they lifted my name and i now can drive her cars again if i had to and they will fully insure it, same thing with my uncle, he was visiting from Virginia, he borrowed my moms car and had a huge something hit the front windshield while on the fwy, for some reason he reported insurance even though replacing the windshield ourselves was cheaper than insurance deductible, well anyways his name was also put on the cannot drive car list for the next 2 or 3 years also, me and my uncle now can drive her car because this was a long time ago
anyways, the reason to my personal story is, the car was fully fixed both times, but i don't know whats going to happen to you since its your car if they do the same thing and put you on the list of do not drive car, maybe get a new policy which covers you afterwards no matter how much it costs because if you are blackballed in driving the car after it is fixed, its no good to you if you get caught in another accident and you are not insured
hopefully your body is okay and everything works out
