I'm also trying to decide if I should keep my evo. Reliability is a concern, although I do all the maintenance at my shop. I also have a lead foot. It's a great car, but I'm keeping my eyes out for something better should it come along.

in your post above you answered yourself...

too many "cons" to keep evo. more "pros" for you to get the truck. it will fit your lifestyle now. the evo may not make it to 150k for what you want to do-without putting more money into it later on. think of the cost of just the maintenance for you versus the truck in say two years....plus any break downs you may have, especially when commuting...

im not trying to knock the Evo. i love mine to death. BUT i also have 4 other cars i can rely on...i had a turbo go out at 9500 miles...MY TURBO...WTF?!!?!? things like that can happen....warranty???pssshhhh.....

Beater Nissan four banger truck rules... low maintenance costs... little maintenance. They run forever!

In all honesty you have to think with your head and not your heart.

Obviously you love your Evo but even with regular diligent maintenance 110 miles a day for 4 days a week is a lot.

Not to mention that the Evo won't be the best DD for such long distances for a myriad of factors (attention from the police, the above mentioned maintenance, and the nice noisy exhaust which can get a little annoying).

You even mention that you will be moving into a new house shortly, which I assume will effect your financial situation.

If I were in your situation I would:

Buy another DD beater & keep the Evo: Get something a little more reliable and with less miles than the Grand Am.

A nice Corolla "beater" with 60-70k miles on the clock will last you a good while.

What about the old Toyota SR5 pickups? Solid cars and built to last.

You'd have to pay more than $300.00 for a decent low-mileage "beater" though, but you can probably get a lot more miles out of it.

Good luck .

Without going through your options I would sell. You have other toys to play with and I can't imagine driving a EVO for a DD anyway. I vote Tundra.

i drove 220 miles a day on my 03 evo for around a month and a half or more. i put like close to 10k miles in less then 2 months so I understant believe it or not I though exactly the same thing you are, to get rid of my evo and buy something else. but i just decided to rebuild the engine. I love my evo, but i know its not going to last for ever. but is just to good of a car to get rid of.

I went back and re-read the post, and realized your DD was the Evo.

DUDE! Cough up a grand and buy another DD. Lose the Evo for a truck? 110 miles traveling, WITH a V8?

I know tuned Evo's getting way better gas mileage. I would keep the Evo, and get another DD or fix the motor in the Grand Am.

i agree... get some extra money and get a honda/ toyota as a beater. honestly, i have thought about the idea of selling the evo, but when i try to picture what it would be like driving a normal car everyday, i realize that it would be really boring. The evo is just an amazing car, and i can't see myself getting rid of it anytime soon.
