Hole for gauges.
Hole for gauges.
Hey, just need a quick answer. What did you guys do to get the vacuum line for the boost gauge into the for the a-pillar? I can't find a hole in the firewall. I've read a few articles and none of them really explain it...one mentioned drilling, one said there was a hole....
yeah what he said. I ran mine through the same spot. there's a grommet there that serves no purpose other than to fill the hole it sits in. perfect spot, just drill a hole through the grommet to get the tube through.
This might be overkill on what you are going to do. But I just installed my guage and it took me about a half hour.
Like others have said, there is a hole behind your glovebox. And from your engine bay, it is located behind the passenger side shock tower, at the base of the engine bay.
If your guage is mechanical, I suggest you throw away that crap white thin vaccuum tubing. The guage I used is a spare mechanical autometer guage, so I went to home depot and they sell I believe a 1/8 barb fitting that attatches perfectly to the back of the boost guage.
Next I went to autozone and bought about 6 feet of vacuum line. This line will have enough flex to work around the hole and can snake itself anywhere. I also bought a blue LED light and mounted that to the back of the guage.
Next I got my dremmel tool and cut a 3/8" square from the bottom corner of the plastic pocket under the stereo to run the vacuum line through. I had spare velcro strips and I placed a strip on the top side of the pocket, then a strip around the guage and that keeps it inplace just fine. Plus I didn't want to drill or make any more holes.
Lastly for the LED light I tapped into the white/green wire on the dimmer and ran that to the guage. I used the closest ground source that was just behind the pocket. T'd off a good intake source from the engine bay to the guage, now i'm finished.
Hope this helps, and sorry if it was overkill

Yeah, about the glove box one...I can't see the hole if I tear it down...guess I'll have to feed it through the other way and find out, but...I have another question...autometer boost gauge, where do the power wires plug in?

Is your guage mechanical or electronic? If it is mechanical then you only need to install the light wires, which are easy, ground the ground wire, and tap into a light source wire, which the white/green wire behind the dimmer panel works just fine. if your guage is electronic then I couldn't tell you other than follow the directions because some guages like apexi or delphi install into a control box.
I routed mine from the engine Bay around the front of the fender... along the inside of the fender and through the grommet that is above the fuse box... looks clean and with the right wire covers... looks very factory!
You got pictures of this? Sounds like it maybe easier then the gromment behind the shock tower, and closer.

I did it through the driver's side, on the outside and no hole to drill. Hard to explain but I can take a picture later so that you can see it. Not hard to do at all
