Evo Problem. Stalling at High RMP
Hi, My friend bought an 2003 Evo last week. We encountered 2 problems with it.
1. The check engine light or service engine light dose not come on wen turning the key to the on position. It comes on for about second and it goes off. In the manual it says tht it should be on for 5-10 seconds.
Is this a big problem? You think some one took it off on purpose to try to hide something?
2. Is there a Rev Limiter on the evo? Because when he steps on it and it hits 6000 RPM the car starts to stall. Ive seen it happen in 4000 RPM also. It rarely happen on 1st gear.
Is this a problem with the car? maybe the turbo since it seams to stall during high boost. any idea what it could be?
Thanks!

i would take it to a shop and get it diagnosed asap, my guess is the previous owner had it modded and a agressive tune was applied for it. now the mods are gone, the tune turned sour and the car is running like ****.
just my 2 cents^

Can your friend ask the original owner where he got his work done - maybe the shop has tha answer.
It is likely an aggressive tune as stated or you have an air or fuel delivery problem.
Air is easy, follow the lines. Fuel would require a pressure test, the symptoms you're describing are not spray pattern related.
Do you smell burning metal at all when you turn off the car, if you lift the hood does the engine seem unusually hot?

as far as the check engine light thing, we had a guy come in when i worked at a hyundai dealership complaining of the same problem. i dont think its a problem, but apparently he did and tried to get the car lemon lawed. i thought it was funny people make that big of a deal about it

we went to the dealer and they said that we had to wait for his loan to go through before he could get warranty.
Also i notice today on the way we were hearing some weird noises, like light strips or pieces of metal being hit together it pretty loud, only when he stepped on it.

take it easy on her until you get it figured out. I would throughly check the engine bay, make sure all hoses and fittings are on, and make sure there isnt fuel leaking from the injectors or rail. if you smell fuel inside the car then check out the pump.
thanks for the advice, ill tell him.
