So currently i have an 05 GTI its the one pictured below... Now my big decision is to keep it and save up for an evo down the road, or do I look for a potential buyer and try and find one now, I'm dyinggg to get into one but I also ask because if i get rid of the GTI ill have to DD the evo, and i hear stories that its one of the last things i wana do, so I wanted to get some more feedback on the idea, do you think the evo is a decent DD or would you stick with the GTI and look for an evo after you move out. thanks

The Evo can be a daily driver ranging from stock to David Buschur's daily driven 9 second evo. It all depends on your comfort levels, and how long you drive these cars for a certain period of time.
If i were you, i would def. sell your gti and find an Evo as soon as you can unless you want the new generation that will be released later on this year. (Evolution X)

thanks for the incite, i really dont mind a rough ride, ive come to enjoy it from the suspension on the GTI i was just concerned about maybe any known/common issues i wasnt aware of from constant use of the evo but it sounds pretty solid.
and the X's are alright but I really dig the 8 and 9's and tryin to keep the price around 20-23k which i know will be impossible for a X anyways, i just need to find a buyer for the GTI or better yet a potential evo seller looking for a GTI and cash, anyone?

it all depends on how much money u got to work with. here are some things u might wanna do ahead of time:
1) find out how much ur GTI is worth-sell privately if modded, trade in if stock.
2) check with your ins. co to see HOW MUCH more it will cost you to insure an EVO.
3) go to www.kbb.com & check to see what EVO's sell for in ur area so u don't get shafted.
4) find the nearest shop in ur area that works on EVO's so u can have it thoroughly inspected b4 purchase.
5) look for the lowest mileage 1 owner car u can find & the shop can check for evidence of heavy mods, accidents, etc...
6) choose 3 colors u can live with bcuz used EVO's will be hard to come by.
if u find an EVO that will work for you, set aside about $2k to have a good clutch put in bcuz AWD eats clutches...

If you enjoy the firm feel of your aftermarket suspension on the GTI then you will be fine with the Evo. The stock Evo suspension is pretty stiff, but not the usual stiffness from an upgraded system. As another member stated, it all comes down to your own personal preferences. Do you mind driving in a form-fitting seat? Do you mind tire/transmission/road noise that is more than a normal car? If the answer is yes to the above, then you will be fine. Some Evo owners ***** about the suspension being too rough of a ride, but unless you are going over the mother of all potholes its really not bad. Again, the best thing you have going for you is you enjoy the stiffness of your VW suspension--it will set you up fine to handle the rough ride and characteristics of the Evo. I have been daily driving mine for 20,000 miles with no problems and complete reliability. If you buy an VIII or IX, just find an owner who coddled there's.
awesome, im perfectly fine with that stuff and thats what i was hoping to here ha, thanks alot!
looks like im in the market for an evo then
get rid of the GTI and get an EVO if thats what you really want.
I daily my EVO, its currently @ 86k miles and haven't had a single issue with reliability. I used to have a 91 16v GTI, 88 8v Golf and a 98 VR6 GTI none of which were as reliable as the EVO has been.

It can be daily driven. I personally don't but I do use it for weekends, highway trips, and the occasional Friday drive to work. Gas consumption is decent, usually 24-26 city if I am driving conservatively. Best thing to do would be to take a buddy's car for a spin (that is, if you know someone with an Evo), see how you like it, and then make a decision. That's how I fell for Evo's.
