Picking up new evo this week -question?

Hey everyone. This is my first post. Nice constructive forum. Dumped my 2000 S4 and am now getting an evo. I really like the reasonable cost associated with the car and tuning. The S4 got a little pricey with mods. The thing I will miss the most is not having heated seats and some of the luxury items, but it is a give and take. I won't miss the heavy feeling of the S4.

I know this is early to think of snow but does anyone know of an inexpensive wheel for the evo. I want to get another set for winter to run some snows. With the S4 I could step down to 16" and clear the brakes. I don't see that happening with the evo. Also I am sure their won't be any steel wheels available. Any ideas or should I just check out tire rack? For snows I will probably go with Haka's since I have an affinity for those tires. Any help would be appreciated. There is nothing like a powerful awd car in the snow. This is going to be fun.

Thanks

I can't answer your question, but what color did you get?

Do you realize that most aftermarket leather places, especially the ones that we work with here, can LEATHER or add heated seats to your Recaros? One of the combos I've seen is a black leather on the outside (or even leaving the suede) and a carbon fiber type leather (woven) in the middle. It looks awesome.

With the tires, I would put money on 16's not fitting over the brakes. There may be steel wheels available, but tire rack already has some combos on them. I have a good feeling, a group buy for snow tires will happen on this board, closer to fall.

Thanks for the info. I did become accustomed to heated seats.

Has anyone done an mp3 player into the stock head unit. Like an Ipod or the like.

You know, if you're in Chicago, I'm in Milwaukee, I could have your seats done up here if you want. Let me know.

I do have a beater but driving in the snow is about as fun as it gets with a car like this. I'm not expecting there to be the fit and finish of an S4 and to me spending 30 some grand on a car is nice since I have been getting nailed for cars like S4's and M3's. My wife drives a sweet A6 Avant which I can get my luxury fix if need be.

We're not. That's for sure. (PM me if you want to know more)

I'd have to say that we know more than almost any other dealer.

Winter Tires

I am also thinking of looking for a set of rims and tires for the winter. Maybe not snows, but some good all seasons. Here's hoping one of the vendors will step up and offer a decent package in late September or early November. For me if it gets really bad the EVO will stay home and I'll drop the wife off and take the SUV.

So far there is NO cheap wheels that will clear the brakes. You can pick up a set of refurbished stock wheels for around 1100, or you might get lucky with someone unloading theirs for new wheels, but that's about it. Unless someone knows something I don't? I hope so, 'cause I'm looking for cheap winter wear as well. The good news is that the Advans don't last long, so you may have warn through them by the time winter roll around, anyway. And also the bad news.

MP3

I have a JVC MP3 player that I bought at Best Buy. The grey color is pretty close to the dash color, but it sticks about 1/2 inch out because of the detachable face.

I had last year's JVC MP3 in my previous car and I forgot to swap the stock radio when I sold it. Had to buy another one. I originally got a Kenwood MP3 player, but I didn't like its random feature. It would only random the whole disc, but not an individual folder. Plus I couldn't read the display in sunlight so it went back.

I got a JVC, but it starts to skip when it gets warm (like 80+) outside, plus the antenna sucks with our beesting antennas. I can't hear baseball games on the AM when I go under a bridge or when I drive near highrises. The Best Buy guy said that Kenwood radios come with what he called a "super antenna" and they work well with beesting antennas.

I'm going to take a MP3 disc to Best Buy and play around with the display units until I find one that I like.

Anybody else know of a good MP3 radio with good AM, readable display and a good random feature?

I truly doubt that any 16's will fit. Ive been, looking for 19's, and only a small handfull clear the brakes, I belive its a 38mm offset, but even then some wheels still hit the brakes, If you get a spacer then a bunch of rims become available. (I dont like the idea of spacers though)
