Turbo Questions

Hi All,

i have a few questions about an aftermarket turbo i bought through the classifieds section and im hoping someone can help me out. I purchased this turbo only without a kit, it did not include any oil or water lines. This is a garret turbo that was supposed to come off of an ams 50trim turbo kit. I know that these turbos are supposed to have an oil restrictor but i wanted to be sure that this one has it before i assemble my pieced together kit. so my first question is... "is this an oil restricor"

QUESTION #2
This turbo has a hotside from precision turbo.... is this how AMS ships them out or was it modified by someone in between.
Question #3
i am ceramic coating the Hotside, i see the some people powdercoat the cold side. Is this going to seal in the heat and end up hurting me. i really want to powdercoat it but i dont want to lose performance from it...

thankyou for all your help

Joe, can't see the pictures at work but I had an AMS 50-trim and know what it will look like. If you want me to look at it in person let me know.

I'll see if I can pull the picture up on my pocket pc phone...

Ok, from the picture that is not the restictor, the restictor is a small fitting usually in aluminum that screws into that hole, and then the oil feed line with screw on to the fitting. The fitting is about an inch long in length. The restrictor with have basically a pin hole in it...

Can you remember if your turbo had the Precision Turbo hotside?

Yes, a .63 hotside and it was lightly ported. Should be a 5-bolt hotside as AMS has their wastegate on their o2 housing, not the manifold. The turbo performed quite well. Kick butt combo on a stock bottom end looking for 400-500hp depending on the type of gas used.
