Battery Terminal Question

I have an optima battery and was looking to clean up the look of my engine bay. The question is, would it hurt at all to cut off the stock wire connection to the positive terminal (with the fuses) and just straight wire it with a Tsunami battery clamp? I have no idea what those fuses are for and if they are really needed. This is the first car I have see to have fuses incorporated into the battery terminal clamp.

does anyone know what the fuses are for? Are they for the MR gauge cluster? I wouldnt think so, but I have no idea why there would be a fuse right at the batter rather than going through the fuse panel. Does anyone else have this on their car? Maybe the guy before me put it on for something, but it looks OEM.
