Tranny shipped to me.. wasnt expecting this.
Soo.. I just recieve a tranny shipped to me by an Evom member. When I open the box I was in for a suprise. When I purchases this tranny I was told it was a used tranny with 25k on it in good working order out of a wrecked evo. What I got was a tranny with a case that has been cracked and repaired I'm not sure if its gonna work even cause its been grinded down on the lip a tad. Also can anyone tell me if in the pic I have my hand on the gear/what ever it is .. should this turn smoothand quiet like butter with no play or will it feel a little notchy as you spinn it by hand with a lil forward and back motion if u pull/push on it? I need help here guys chime in.

wow...sorry to hear that bro. i hope it does work out still for yah. im not rich like the other fellas here and when i get something for my evo, i always have my fingers crossed that nothing gets screwed up. i'm pretty sure someone on here can chime in and let you know from what it looks if that tranny's good.
yea this really sucks I'm not rich so this hurt the bank account... my main concern atm is whether its messed up or not with the gears (the one I'm holdingin the pic)
Should I take it by the dealership to have them look at it? Its a 5 speed.

It wouldn't hurt to have someone at the dealership take a look at it and tell you weather it will last or not. For all I know that tranny is good to go and it will cause no problems at all.
If the trannys good and the repair will hold ( I know nothing about welding) I will be a little less mad.. but when I turn that gear the feel of it reminds me of the rattle my own tranny makes on deceleration while in gear.. Soo I'm worried that this one has the same problem.
It looks like the repair weld was done on the bell housing only, meaning the transmission gear housing is not affected. The only thing I would be concerned about is the bolt pattern lining up, other than that it looks like a pretty good weld, full penetration.
As for the output shaft that you have your hands on, I would assume that there would be some natural backlash rotating from one direction to the other, but it would really need to be filled with fluid and tested then... although I would imagine that your dealership shouldn't have a problem with just looking at it, as long as they are cool. I have done several clutch jobs and I'll be damned if I never really paid attention to the small things like that, so I am just going off of knowledge of reduction gears and gearing.
Good luck.
EDIT: Also, aluminum is not easy to weld, so I would bet that he brought it to a professional to have the repair welds done, which would make me feel a little better.
