weird noise coming to stops?

ok ive searched numerous times and found nothing, i even posted in the newb thread just to keep from getting flamed but didnt get as much help as i would have liked.

anyways i have a weird noise, almost like a clunk when i come to a complete stop. its in the front end and thats about all i know for where its at.
it only happens once everytime i start the car. so if i turn the car off at a red light then back on and take off i get the same noise at the very next stop. but if i let it run it wont be there anymore its puzzling and im really at my wits end with this one help?

Check axles or maybe even a wheel bearing

I'm stumped by that also. I had the same thing happen to me but it was continuous because of a bad wheel bearing.

well i pulled the tired off and got under the car. its deffinitly not a wheel bearing but all of the driver front is covered in oil including the axel. now my allergies are after me right now but i kinda got a hint of gear oil so im thinking maybe the axel isnt seating right? does that sound probable?

axle, make sure the boot is not ripped, but it sounds like it is.

When I first had my Evo, I feel the same as you do too... but after much discussion in here, it came to be normal after awhile.

any ways its all fixed, oil was from a loose cover on the tranny, its al tight and snug now with no leaks!
as for the noise, i thought it was weird how it was only happening when the car was restarted.
i decided ill bleed the acd just to try it since it prims itself when you start the car.
sure enough when i went under and had my brother prime it to be bled it made the exact noise. after bleeding and refilling the noise is gone. now i just have some break noise at stops but im sure its from the gear oil on the calipers
just thought id share so when other people get the noise they can give this a shot

the gear oil was leaking down the side of the tranny onto the axel then down the axle and onto the rotor, thus putting it on the pads and caliper. the inside of my rim was just covered with gear oil too.

Interesting. Good trouble shooting though. I wouldn't have thought to bleed the ACD. Live and learn.
