Exhaust Issue

My exhaust is hitting my rear bumper and melting it...and from what I understand thats a common issue with EVO's and aftermarket exhausts. I found a carbon fiber heat shield that can be installed right there, and im just wondering if that would be a good purchase to protect my bumper or do you guys reccomend a different exhaust that wont do that? Im just trying to avoid buying a chincy part or something that will end up looking worse than my bumper lol, so just lemme know what you guys think.

What exhaust do you have? I don't know what you heard. but it is not a common issue if you buy a high quality exhaust. I think the CF exhaust shield looks ricey as hell, so i'd change out the exhaust.

readjusting the hangers should allow you to gain the clearance to keep from melting the bumper

^Yeah, what he said. If you don't feel comfortable, any muffler shop should be able to tweak the hangers to give you the necessary clearance not to melt the bumper. It shouldn't cost you very much. At my shop I would do it for $20 for example. You will still probably get the black film on the bumper that has to be cleaned off periodically though.

Alright. The guy I bought the car from said it was a DC sports exhaust. I kind of want to change it though, just going to do some looking around for a nice turboback exhaust I think.

For the time being you can use vice grips and/or pliers to sort of bend the exhaust hangers to give you some more clearance.

^ not every evo is made exactly the same. some hanger mounts might be slightly off than others causing exhausts to hit/rub things. id prob find another turbo back and sell that one

Yeh most likely I will look around and see what the more popular turbobacks are from the more experienced members and once I see what other people are using and if they like them and are overall happy with the purchase ill make a decision. Right now im still learning a lot about the car and whats popular and whats not.

If the entire exhaust system was not bolted up properly then that could be a source of the problem as well. Do what the other guys have said and adjust the hangers to make sure you have the clearance, also make sure that the exhaust isnt hitting the drive shaft as well. A quality exhaust shouldnt be doing this and if you have a DC then you shouldnt be having this problem. Cobb just came out with a sick new exhaust.

My HKS was tapping my driveshaft when I first put it on. Just had to do a little fabrication to make it work. Like everyone else said, every evo is different.
