Engine Sound in Evo 8 and Evo 9

Does the Mivec equipped engine have a different sound than the Non Mivec engine? The reason i ask is because i have been in an Evo 8 and my car sounds a bit different, especially above 4K rpm and climbing. The Evo 8 that i was in sounded alot more smooth than mine during acceleration. My evo runs fine and i have had no problems with it. I was just woundering. I have not seen this question posted yet so i figured i would ask.

Well I am sure their are different sounds due to the cams and tune. Mine sounded better stock then my freinds VIII. I can hear the MIVEC but it is hard to describe, almost like a hum?

Like you said, its hard to describe...It is just real loose sounding to me like something may be worn out. I did buy it used so im always gonna be a skeptic until something breaks HAHA.

When I owned the ralliart, while idling I would rev to 3500 rpms, at which point it was possible to hear the mivec cutover. It was nowhere near as loud as vtec or anything like that but it was audible. I'll check to see if I can hear it in the IX in a little bit. I'd have to imagine the VIII's and IX's sounded just a touch different as well.

i cant tell the diffrence and ive never been in an viii so i cant help you there either. My old daily was a 3.5 maxima 6 spd and you could tell when it switched over around 4500.

ok, tried to see if I could hear the mivec cutover at 3500 (assuming thats where it cuts over...which I'm also unsure of lol) but I couldn't hear it. It was very audible in the ralliart but not in the IX.
