Can Faulty Spark Plugs Trigger SES Light?
Can Faulty Spark Plugs Trigger SES Light?
Hey guys was wondering if messing with the ground electrode by gapping it up or down can mess it up and trigger the SES (Service Engine Soon) light cuz mine came on after I was checking my plugs n regapping them. Everything was cherry before that though. Think I should buy new OEM plugs or is there a way to fix this? It sometime misfires -.- Any advice or comments would be highly appreciated, Thanks :-p

i gapped mines to .024... at first i tried gapping it to like .040 just to c how it runs n it ran like sh*t lol.. i'm thinking that wen i gapped it down to .024 i might've messed the ground electrode n now it's not functioning properly... but i never knew spark plugs can trigger the SES light tho...
no not yet.. i gotta take it to the dealer n hav them check the code since idk how... :-/ there wasn't any SES light until after i messed around w/the plugs so i'm assuming it's the plugs... but yea i'll hav the dealer check the code
You can take it to any Autozone and they'll check the code out for you. You can clear it by just resetting the ECU. Many of us aren't too fond of dealerships.

Sorry to bring a thread from the dead. I had SES and stuttering issues, replaced the plugs and gapped to .20. No issues whatsoever.
My history is with WRXes and I must say, once I felt the faint stuttering and noticed the SES, I instantly had the suspicion that it was a blown motor via gasket or who knows.
Gap properly and hopefully this will be the solution to your problems.
