vehicle maintenance question

i will probably not take my car to get work done at the dealer so i was just curious.
i have an 06 GG MR with 17k+. ses light came on.
i was curious to know if there is a certain milage in particular this is supposed to come on, and what do they maintain..
basic tune up things or more?
and how do i get rid of the light?
this is my first brand new car, i have owned heavily modded eg civics, and s13's, but new to the mitsubishi and cars newer than 2000,
any help would be great.
thanks

When you say "vehicle maintenance light" do you mean Service Engine Soon?
If so that is the equivalent of a "check engine" light... we don't have maintenance lights.

+1, you're probably seeing the SES light.

Also to the OP, is your car bone stock? If not, what mods have you installed?

Our cars definitely do not have a vehicle maintenance light. Is this car brand new as you mentioned or do you mean it is brand new to you? I would get the code pulled to see what your problem is.

+1

If you don't have an OBDII scanner, go to Autozone or PepBoys and they'll check it for you FOR FREE!

I used to go to Autozone whenever I would get a CEL or SES but got tired of that and now I just use my tactrix cable and whatever the name of that program is that reads and clears our trouble codes.

If that light is coming on you need to do as everyone else has mentioned and get the code pulled. If you just want to clear the CEL take off the neg. battery terminal for about 1 minute and you should be good to go.

Also as asked preivously what mods do you have if you do have any? Have you done the drivetrain fluid change yet? Depending on your driving style you should have it changed if you have not yet.

Here's the website.

You are looking for Scan Tech. You will have to register with the site, but after you do that you can download for free. The program does work because I have used it myself.

It could be the SES light for the TBE if your not running a cat in there. But like others said go to autozone and have it checked for free.

And how do you get that scan-tech program to work. I have tried numerous times to get it to connect via the auto-detect and still no work?

That's what I was thinking. OP, did you go with a test pipe on the exhaust?
