What are your Oil temps?

First, I have my oil temp sensor in the blank plug above the oil filter. During normal driving I am seeing 180 degrees F, if I run it hard on the Autobahn I am seeing 200 degrees F. This sucks as I know it is alot hotter than that and I am not getting the right readings. Anyone else using the blanks getting a low reading and where would the sensor be better suited without drilling? If possible?

Mine is in the same place. I believe this is a good place for the temp sensor. My temps seem to be similar to what you are getting. During the summer time your temp at autobahn speeds might reach into the 220f.

This is my experience, i may be wrong.

If you are running high oil temps in warmer weather, switch to a thicker oil better suited to handle long duration of high temps. I'd either run Mobil 1 15w50, Royal Purple 20w50, or Schaffers 20w50 full synthetic. Drain 10w30 in the summer time with the motor at normal operating temp. It looks thinner than urine. The majority of 4g63 race cars run 15w50 and 20w50 in the summer.

I had the car out for a little bit yesterday. WOT for almost 2 miles in 6th gear, up hill grade. I noticed the temp rise to about 90*C. That's the highest its been, ever.

2+ hours of cruising at 3500 rpms it gets up to about 190F. doing pulls to dial in the boost controller got it a little over 200F...

after cruising for a while, it's about 180*F, maybe a bit more...my warning is set at like 210 and it's never gone that high...(sensor is at the vacant hole near the oil filter)

I'm waiting for my Oil temp gauge. I found some How To threads and they do use the top where the hex bolt is used to seal the hole. The manual recommended Mobile 1 10W30. Do you guys recommend different grade for the summer driving as suppose to winter??

I read the Japanese evo magazine, they recommend 15-50 for track, so summer time you can run that too.

The best oil I've used is ENEOS 0w-50. The stuff pours like water, even compared to Mobile 1 5w-30, and yet it's so stable, even idling for 15+ min in hot weather Oil psi won't drop below 20.

Mobile 1 5w-30 gets dangerously thin when it is hot. I would recommend a 40 or 50 weight oil for hot summers.

during the summer with outside temps around 80F, my gauge reads about 75C. during the winter, it barely reaches 60F
