gauges help...

ok so i bought the car used. It had two gauges on the A piller. Boost and A/F (gay light show).

Anyways...the guy before me combined all the power wires together (even signal wire for a/f) into ONE red wire. Then he put that on what looks like it fits into a fuse (it looks like it has place for another fuse to go on top of it, like multiple sockets). He also combined all the ground wires into one wire and grounded that off.

It wasn't powered because obviously it wasn't plugged into any fuse. So i plugged it into the cig fuse. It lit up and everything was good until i tried to plug something into the cig socket (radar dectector). It didn't power up. So i took it out, put the fuse back in (radar dector works now). I tried putting it into another fuse like the dimmer/radio/an empty one, and now it doesn't light up.

I used a multimeter and i realized that there is not current goin from one prong to the other. What did i do wrong here? are there fuses inside the gauges that i blew? This is giving me a headache because i know its something simple, but i can't figure it out.

Thanks for your help guys.

Some power sources like the radio don't come on unless the ignition is on. Some like the radio's dimmer don't come on unless the lights are turned on FYI. Use your volt meter as a volt meter and figure out if you have voltage period
