From what I understand the price of evo VIII's and IX's are going up. I would hold off on a MR. Get a 5 speed, trust me. It took me like 3-4 months to find my evo.

If your planning on tracking the car I hear the 6-speed is supposed to be better for auto-x while the 5 speed better for drag. Either way though 32k for a 12k MR is a bit high, I'd go with what everyone else is guessing at around 28k or so now. I bought my IX GSR for around 27k over a year ago with ~1500 miles and no evidence (other than a test pipe) that it had been modified. And it did have the BBS rims, vortex generator and some nice tinting done already.

I'd say wait and see if it drops or you can find another, at least your in an area where the car isn't extremely rare. I think I'd be screwed if I tried to find one here in El Paso, thankfully I was living in SoCal when I bought mine.

32k is definetely too much, if it was brand new then maybe but otherwise there are better deals out there. You have to be patient when buying an Evo, there are a lot of them out there you wouldn't want to own. It does take time but you just have to keep looking. Regular IX's should be in the high 20k range for a pretty good one.

28k is a fair price for that MR. Low miles is good, but sell your car privately and get more $ for it - I'll NEVER trade a car of mine in - the dealer keeps WAY too much of my cash!

Frankly I hardly see any SE's for sale. I didn't even know what an SE package was until I looked at the one I eventually bought. I think Mitsubishi made very limited numbers of the SE. Brand new mine was 35K before taxes. The dealer wanted almost 38K before taxes but I got him down to 35K. They are rare but they're out there as well.

I'm from Jersey and bought my IX SE for $26,500 out the door at a dealer just last month. Car was bone stock and only had 8600 miles on it. I originally was holding out for a WW IX MR but I just couldn't pass up this deal. Needless to say: no regrets, and I feel priviledged to own an SE.

Oh and for the record, it was the only SE I saw for sale in my area during my 5 month search.

funny... i actually had my SE on autotrader a few months ago. Its in pristine condition and i listed it for 28,500. I had inquiries but NOONE had money. Just a bunch of flakes and kids dreaming... after 2 months, i decided not to sell it. A friend of mine convinced me due to certain points... 1) the EVO 9 was only made in 06' which makes it rare. 2) The fact its an SE (all MR perks except 5 spd) makes it even more rare 3) some 9's are appreciating... and some think it will hold its value more since only available in 06'

i actually bought mine brand new in March 07' (i thought it was weird it said 06' thats when i found out it was only made in 1 year, so it mustve been sittin for a while... and also when i found out wtf an SE was... lol..)

Good luck OP

Its an MR and seems completely stock minus a triple gauge pillar which leads me to think it was probably modded before it was changed back to stock. Its at a dealer and Im looking to trade my SUV (they offered me 13k over the phone without looking at it which is crap, but expected from a dealer) So my questions is whats that EVO worth realistically? Thanks.

they are offering you crap for your Navigator bcuz everyone is trading big SUV's in for more efficient cars. dealers have so many SUV trades that the values are sinking like the titanic bcuz no one is coming in to buy those used SUV's. EVOs are holding value bcuz of the skepticism behind the EVO X + they only made 6000 evos a year. my '03 is 5yrs old w/14910 miles on it & its still worth $20k!!!

When trading in, remember that the value of your trade-in gets subtracted from the purchase price when calculating taxes, so that can sometimes be worth avoiding the hassle of selling privately. For instance, I recently traded in my 2004 Lexus GX470 for a new Saturn Vue Redline (for the wife). The trade-in was 29k, and the Vue was 31k, so I only paid sales tax on 2k instead of 31k, which is a difference of about $2000 here. It wasn't worth the hassle of trying to sell the Lexus for 30k+ to an individual just to counteract the taxation.

However, if you trade in for a used car, you will definitely lose out, because they are trying to sell it for what people were paying for new MRs at SouthCoast Mitsu.

I do find it hard to believe that one guy above got a pristine IX SE for 26.5k OTD, because OTD includes tax, tag, and title...that's about impossible to do for a non-modded, low-mile Evo that is the BEST model ever made (IX SE).

Try to buy from private party. 27-29K is like the going rate for an excellent Evo 9 unless you get it from a dealer, which is around 2-3K more.
