oem oil temp gauge not working

I have the oem triple gauge cluster on my evo8 and everything on it has been working fine until about a week ago.(80,xxx miles) My oil temp stopped working. I am almost sure it is the wire coming out of the oil drain bolt, because it looks like it is in rough shape. Question is, where can I buy a new drain plug and temp sensor with wire setup, besides the stealership?

You can try the private for sale section or www.mitsubishiparts.net . They actually have very good prices and excellent customer service.

I'm having the same exact issue on my IX and started a thread but it looks like its gone!?!?!? My problem is that the gauge is moving up and down. I went to the dealer and they had no idea that the MR comes with a drain bolt and a sensor attached. The parts guy even looked it up with my VIN number and still the diagram is not showing anything but just a plain non-MR drain plug. Does someone know the part number for the MR drain plug?

BGR, i looked too, and cant find a damn thing. I tried tapping mine, and it did nothing. It came back to life the other day, but I still dont know what caused it to die in the first place, and how I am going to prevent it from happening again. I doubt the dealership will be of much help.

it sounds like my temp gauge. it sticks and when i tap it or hit a bump and it works again. make sure that engine is warm/estemate that the oil temp should be warm already and then tap the gauge w/ your finger a few times, it should go up if it's sticking.

Mine is not sticking, just going crazy back and fourth when I turn on the car and then it settles about two bars above bottom. What is usually the normal temp?

Not too long ago I had the same issue. Bad news is, is that they dont sell just the plug with the oil temp sensor. You have to buy the whole gauge cluster in order to get that plug. Sucks major ***. Turns out that the clip on the wire coming from the sensor was broken. I just zip tied the damn thing. It'll hold me over till I buy some Defi's.

Does anyone know if there's a guage on the market that will work with the stock wiring/sender? I want to upgrade this cluster to 52mm and I'm trying to figure out a way to do it without too much trouble. Would it just be easier to scrap this gauge and sender and just put something completely different in it's place? It seems like there's hardly any info anywhere on the stock cluster.

Oh that sucks, that's why parts guy couldnt find the sensor because he was looking at the oil pan and plug. I'm wondering if this is really that important, I mean the oil temp as it seems its not that accurate to begin with I wonder if I should just remove the oil drain plug and replace it with the magnetic plug. What do you guys think and do you recommend a brand? Thanks.

PS Which clip was broken, at the gauge or at the plug?

Question

I just installed the gauge cluster in my straight 8, the dealership told me the same thing... You have to buy the whole gauge cluster. Your best bet is to find someone on here that has one they are trading out, pm me if you find a site selling these. I'll keep looking too.

yeah, it broke down by the sensor. You know the area where you can detach the sensor from the line to the gauge? Zip ties work marvels.
