Whining Neighbor

I have a whining neighbor about the exhaust on my car. Has anyone done a decibel test on their car? If so where can I get one done? If you have had one done, what exhaust changes do you have and what did the test read? If it over the legal limit, I am just going to get an electronic cutout so I can still run quick at the track.

Thanks!

You can buy a decibel meter from Radio Shack for $50.

Always makes me laugh at how many people spend so much time on here typing to tell other people to search or that it has been discussed. If I had the time to read that rediculously long thread I would have a 'virtual' social life like you.

Thanks Otter, that gave me the help I needed.

We point it out so the community doesn't sound like a broken record having to rehash out epic threads and previous extensive conversations with noobs who don't or can't seem to figure out how to search.

Glad it makes you LOL. Makes me LOL too!

Tell your neighbor to F off!

The decibel tester from Radioshack isn't going to solve your issue.

What type of exhaust do you have? Is it ridiculously loud? Do you live in a townhome or a single family home? Do you own your home or are you living with your parents? What are the noise ordinances in your city and in the state of Florida?

You gotta tell us more if you expect us to help you. If you're over your state's legal DB limit, you could get in trouble. Even if you aren't, you could still be in trouble. Just depends on how much of an *** you neighbor wants to be. But, you have to live next to these people so hopefully you'll find a mutually agreeable solution.

Good luck, you're gonna need it on this one.

I have a cheapie Megan manifold, O2 housing, Downpipe and resonated TP with Greddy Ti-C catback.
I own the single family home I live in.
I have not read anything in the HOA about noise ordinances, they are VERY vague so it bouces back to Florida state law.
The neighbor is just looking for a reason to complain (I'm 15 yrs younger than most anyone on my block) and I really think its just a immature form of jealousy. That aside, it helps me none to say I drive responsibly if I really dont and then ask for help on here. I drive responsibly. They started with my drag truck (supercharged v8 and straight pipes) that I only drive on the occasional saturday to the track or a show. They are just going to have to deal with that, before I throw away the $80K I have into that thing. Now they are honing in on the car. I have the stock system in the attic. I just want to see if it is legal as is before I go the electronic cutout route.

I'm gonna guess you're over the DB limit with that exhaust system. I'm sure it sounds really great and you love it, but definitely loud. But, you'll have to confirm what the state limit is and then have a state referee (do you have them in FL?) measure the DBs of the exhaust. Plus, the fact that your Evo is "technically" not street legal (because you removed the stock cat which is illegal anywhere in the US) could cause you headaches if your neighbors called the police on you. You'll need to be careful on this one. Just go talk to your neighbors and see if you can work something out. Bring a 12 pack and offer them a ride in the fastest car they'll ever sit in Also, showing them this is a hobby and way of life for you might bring them to a level of understanding where everyone can be happy.

Wow they are complaining about your TI-C catback?

I'll roll through with my AMS TBE w/ TP and maybe they will shrug you off
